About the Author William Bay is president of Mel Bay Publications, Inc. He is an accomplished guitarist and trumpet player and has performed on both instruments in a wide variety of professional settings. He is experienced as a performer and composer of music ranging from jazz and rock to the classics and sacred. He received his bachelor's degree from Washington University in St. Louis and his master's from the University of Missouri. Bill has received international acclaim for his innovative teaching methods, and he has authored over 200 books with sales in the millions. Mike Christiansen is a Professor and Director of Guitar Studies at Utah State University. In 1994 he was selected "Professor of the Year" at Utah State. He is the author of numerous instructional books, has recorded several CDs, and appears on fourteen instructional videos. He has had articles published in several magazines including Acoustic Guitar and Soundboard, and has also conducted many workshops for guitarists and educators. In addition to this work geared toward teaching, he has played in many top bands and ensembles, has written and performed radio jingles, has backed up many artists on recordings and has written and recorded music for TV and educational films. Currently, in addition to his teaching and writing duties, Mike does solo work, performs with the Lightwood Duo (a clarinet-guitar duo), and is a member of the group, Mirage.

We teach age 5 to 85 and all students are encouraged and guided through all their playing experiences with great theory, great playing exercises, and a simple progression of skill developing songs.

But nothing in the book is cliche. On the contrary, it reveals to us what endless media reports and countless print articles have only rarely touched on. We have heard tales of "informal" arms deals, crooked contractors, and the lives turned upside down, the but this book brings these to live with freshness and intimacy not found in all the hours and pages of print that have been devoted to this subject over the last 10 years--and counting.

It was in part a memoir. Indeed perhaps a rollicking tale of an adventurous period, obviously one of many this writer has had, might would be a better explanation. Particularly refreshing was the free concession as to the erroneous, if well intentioned, beliefs which were early held. I have no doubt that only those who spend time in areas where life is very cheap can have an understanding of the day to day emotions which are raised. However I felt that I understood a little bit. And certainly I enjoyed the adventure. Thank you Heidi Kingstone.

By sks Erin Maine continues Nicole Brentwood's journey towards healing from her tragedies experienced in Bittersweet Justice and Masquerading Justice. Nicole and Aedan find adventure and purpose as their relationship grows in a new community. They learn of a society of people who mistrust the government and trappings of civilization who have alternative energy sources, agriculture, and medicine for the purpose of freedom and independence from government. While outside sources threaten the USA, growing friendships and relationships and their lifestyle can be the strength and backbone they need to survive the new threats. (Which can be in book #4 if Erin Maine continues Nicole's adventures.) Hint ... hint.PS - I love the book cover too. Beautiful photo and graphics.

Shaking Foundations and Prodding Sacred Cows By Lena Guyot I first read "Letters from the Earth" in 1962, when I was a highschool student in Redding, CT. Redding was the last home of Mark Twain, and those who held his literary legacy as sacred, his library as a shrine, were definitely upset and embarrased when it was published. All this made it compelling reading for an adolescent who was beginning to notice the inconsistencies, hypocrisies and downright insanities of human belief. "Letters from the Earth" shook loose the stones of my foundation: a service for which I'll be forever grateful. Including himself in his witty attack on Earthly Man's frailties, Twain's observations encouraged me to trust my own perceptions, prod sacred cows, and ultimately to forgive myself for being at best, "a nickel-plated angel".I've read, reread, and revered most of Twain's legacy, but I think of this particular book as a treasurebox full of letters from a brilliant, irascible but loving uncle each of us should have known sometime in our lives. I only wish I'd remembered to share it with my own kids when they were adolescents. I must make amends right now...AFTER I've reread it myself.

84 of 87 people found the following review helpful. A Mixed bag By Bill R. Moore This book is probably not what you are expecting. If you are looking for a free-wheelin' adventure story along the lines of Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn, you will not only be disappointed, but most probably shocked. However, if you are looking for an entire book of irrevent writings - as I was - then that's not what you're getting, either. Something less than half of the book (say, roughly, 1/3) consists of deliciously irrevent writings, drained from Mark Twain's pen of bitter ink. The best among these is the title section, "Letters From The Earth", in which Satan writes back to archangels Gabriel and Michael about his visit to earth and the "human race experiment", after his banishment from heaven. In these letters, Mark Twain points out various absurtities and illogical assertions and beliefs about human religions, and unflinchingly describes the vanity and hypocrisy of many of its adherents. I was under the impression that the entire book consisted of these letters; however, I was wrong. It is merely the first section of the book, occupying some 30-50 pages. For people who are highly into this kind of writing, however - as I am - it is worth the price of admission alone. There are several other pieces in the book along this line - including the famous essays Was The World Made For Man? and The Lowest Animal - which display not only Mark Twain's essential pessimism, but his very rational mind and hilarous wit. These pieces are an absolutely essential read for the lover of satire: few better examples are to be found anywhere in literature. The rest of the book, however, is a mixed bag. It consits of various pieces from the "Mark Twain Papers" - a collection of his writings (mostly unfinished) the he decreed to have published sometime after his death. Among these are a few interesting pieces (most of them various satires, several on religious topics), while others are more broadly ranging: everything from a completely improvised tale that he used to put his two children to bed to an unfinished fantasy piece that the editor seems to attach rather a lot of importance to, but whose actual virtue is somewhat more questionable. These pieces range from vaguely interesting to mildly funny to downright boring. Several would've probably been better served by being included in other volumes, while several should probably have been left unpublished. Still, there are definitely some essential writings in this volume that any fan of Mark Twain - or satire, or irrevent writings, for that matter - will want to read.

They cover a wide span of subject matter ranging from critiques of the prose style of another writer to the author's construction of the Old Testament and God from the perspective of Satan. In addition to Letters From Earth (Satan's), the contents includes Papers of the Adam Family, The Damned Human Race, Something About Repentance, Was the World Made For Man, In the Animal's Court, The Intelligence of God, The Lowest Animal and others.Readers who are offended by careful examinations of the meaning and implications of holy or sacred writings of the Old Testiment will not enjoy this book. The author, whatever his actual religious beliefs, probably wasn't an Old Testiment Christian. In this series of short writings he takes specific stories from the OT and holds them into the light away from the long traditions that accompany them in most of our minds. He examines the evidence of the stories for hints of what sort of creature God must be if the OT is true. He extropolates what Satan might be.I'm an admirer of this author and I believe everything he ever wrote is worth reading and digesting. I put this book alongside his best. But I also admit that if I harbored a microbe of religious fanatic somewhere inside me I'd be hard-pressed to enjoy reading Letters From the Earth.

Return to a beautiful world By Réalta After reading the first part I was extremely eager to read the second half and once again join this new and exotic world I had only just discovered. As I delved deeper into the book I found more of this world I had grown to treasure as well as a story about a love so powerful that it even looked death in the face without flinching. The more I read the more I wanted to ensure the characters could achieve their long overdue happiness. I laughed and cried along with them and as the story drew to a close I couldn't stop the wistful smile that came to me. As with the first book, once again the author continues with the unique writing style that I truly savor for all its rarity. It's not something many writers could successfully incorporate into their works. This author has not only managed to, but has created a style that is completely his own; which in turn makes the book all the more enjoyable.I received an advanced reading copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The author was born in the city of Bristol and has lived there for most of his life. He studied at the City of Bristol College before crossing the Severn Bridge to complete his studies and research at the University of Wales. He is a member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).As a qualified counsellor Andy works with clients with a wide range of problems including addictions, OCD and PTSD using a relational integrative model which supports Cognitive Behavioural, Humanistic and Psychodynamic therapies.Andy presented the research for this book at the BACP Annual National conference in Liverpool in May 2011.

By Kindle Customer Having just finished Dr. Lenhardt's book, I can sincerely say it is an excellent addition the the shelves (or tablets) of both practitioners and laymen alike. He thoroughly covers many relevant issues of modern and integrative medicine in our society today, yet does so in a manner that is practical, logical and easy to grasp. Best of All Worlds examines the benefits of both alternative and mainstream therapies, as well as the potential downsides, and his recommendations are grounded in common sense and years of practical applications of allopathic medicine. I particularly liked his use of case studies to illustrate his findings, and his references to many other books and practitioners for support. This book is well worth your time and energy!

There are the good guys who do their best to find the cause of medical problems and try their best to cure the patient. Then there are others who are in the medical and pharmaceutical fields for the money. There are patients and parents who will do everything in their power to help themselves and their loved ones. Then you read about people who think that they know more than their doctors and are aggressive or do not follow instructions from their physicians. Why bother making appointments and wasting the doctor’s and their time?We learn about mainstream medicine that works and how it sometimes does not work well. We also learn about alternative medicine that is appropriate for some but not for all. Natural does not always mean good things will happen. Snake venom is natural. This book’s main theme for me is the melding of mainstream and alternative medicine. Each has its place and when used by a caring and knowledgeable doctor the best outcome can occur. The information in this book will help to guide people in seeking the right care for them. It is not an easy task. The many case studies are helpful.The Best of All Worlds was helpful for me to take another look at the medicines that I am using. I had been on an expensive drug for so long that the maker (Bayer) discontinued the drug. I searched for a replacement medication and found the one that I am presently taking. What was missing in the discussion was – did I really need the medication in the first place. I have set up an appointment with my Primary Care Physician to review this and other medicines and supplements that I presently take. I was on every statin drug on the market until a friend (a nurse) explained that the muscle pains that I was experiencing are a side effect of statins. Now, every TV commercial for statins has that warning. After a discussion with my doctor we decided that the adverse effects of statins on me outweighed the benefit – if any. I stopped using the drugs several years ago.The Best of All Worlds by Dr. Andrew Lenhardt is highly recommended.

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Only the worst play for the closed-minded By Helen Li If you fear change and provocative discussion, don't read or see this play. If you appreciate the struggle of people on the other side of the world, if you want to listen to an intelligent critique on society, and if you want to enjoy an brilliantly crafted fiction, read it. And see it if it's playing near you. I don't know what that guy who wrote that it's "the worst play ever" was thinking, but it's pretty evident that he doesn't think very broadly. Theatre for entertainment is all well and good, but anyone who thinks it can't also be a vessel for social change is a fool, and people who bash things they don't agree with clearly demonstrate themselves as such. So read this play, and regardless of whether you love it or loathe it, TALK about it. I think that's what the playwright wanted in the first place.

Arnold Firstly, let me dispell the comment below about gratuitous [physical] sex: there is no sex in this play, and only a brief nude scene which is completely unsexual. My college just performed this great play, and it took a while to warm up to it. The first time I tried reading the script, I had an extremely hard time getting through it. If David Edgar is guilty of one bad thing in this play, it is for dealing with too many issues and ideas. This work is jam-packed with ideas--not randomely, but ideas brought forth by characters who fittingly have them and feel the need to share them. There is a great line in the play: "we are the sum of those who have invaded us." Let this play invade you.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Great in class discussions. By wade jacoby I have used this play in several undergraduate classes in European Politics. One of its many virtues is that it starts a lot of conversations with students who by their own admission know very little about eastern europe. And yet whenever I have students from eastern europe in the class, they always find many parts of the play deeply authentic. It's getting a bit dated by now (2003), but I still think it's a terrific starting point for discussions about borders, ethnicity, and commerce in contemporary europe.

Rosenman An Excellent Guide to Treating OCD and Compulsive Behaviorverified purchaseSimple Anxiety Relief should be a very effective guide to anyone suffering from OCD and compulsive behavior, whether in extreme or moderate forms. In approximately 5000 words, the author presents a power pack of information on the subject, and a course of action that covers the tools for treatment and a clear, convincing discussion of how to use them.What Goodley says has the ring of truth. He tells us that “An important step toward recovery is to recognize your compulsions as compulsions.” In addition, we are NOT our compulsive thoughts and should not confuse ourselves with them. He reminds us more than once that “recovery is a lifestyle,” not a “cure” or “finish-line” and that “anxiety disorders are a lot like a kidnapper” in that they keep us “confined.” Also important are the concrete remedies he recommends, which seem to touch upon all the bases.If someone wants relief from anxiety, this book is an outstanding place to begin.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Down to Earth By Shannon Pease I am not a big fan of self-help books, so the fact that I really enjoyed this is rare. I do not suffer from OCD in a clinical sense, but I have suffered from anxiety for as long as I can remember. Social anxiety is the what I would consider my worse anxiety issues. I am lucky in the fact that I can identify stressors and I know why I have those stressors. There are a lot of people who cannot pinpoint an event that triggers their anxiety. Although I can pinpoint doesn't mean I have an easy time overcoming or preventing my attacks. This author takes a very matter-of-fact approach on OCD and anxiety. He's not advertising a product or gimmick. What he offers is down to earth advice that makes sense and could be pretty simple to maintain. The book is easy to read and can be read in one setting. I definitely recommend it, especially if you are looking for some honest advice.
