Phillippi Tragedy and Triumph in Weaver County is a novelization of actual events that occured in the Amish community. Names and places have been changed to protect the privacy of the families and the community involved. The Amish community has become a popular subject recently, enjoying titles in mystery, romance and inspirational genres. This particular novel tackles the subject of mental illness and the all-too-silent suffering of women who are brought up in a patriarchal culture that rarely recognizes the "illness" part of mental illness. What is extraordinary in this book, is that the author, Tim Moriarty, has taken steps to bring awareness of mental illness-as-an-illness, to Amish communities as a result of the tragedy alluded to in the title. Some communities were more open than others, but because the author has had a long-established and trusted relationship with the community, there have been "triumphs" as well. The Amish are more than a quaint tourist attraction; they are a cultural that believes deeply in their faith and family, and yet there are instances when this level of devotion can cause unbelievable harm. By janet deluca Timothy Moriarty’s latest book, “Tragedy and Triumph in Weaver County” is a must read… This book allows you to read of his remarkable outreach to help AMISH and MENNONITES better understand modern day treatments for “Mental Illness.”Tim; tells this story through an Amish housewife who reaches out to someone outside her faith to share her personal pain of dealing alone with her husband’s mental illness and hopes that Timothy Moriarty can help both her, and the Amish.This is an excellent book that brings to light of an Amish wife’s heartbreak, as with all of Tim’s books he draws you into the storyline and makes you feel the pain of this housewife’s struggles.

Schusterman Stephan Hausner's new book reveals many original observations about the relationship between the traumas of our ancestors and the illnesses that we carry. He shows through story and explanation how we secretly maintain connection to the unresolved events of the past when we suffer a disease.Alternative and complementary medicine has exploded with new techniques and procedures, yet few of these new ways of balancing the body/mind deal with the hidden patterns behind illness that show the love in the soul for the suffering of our ancestors. Stephan clearly shows the consequences a child has to endure, yes chooses to endure, when he/she bonds to a family with unresolved pain and trauma.He also shows us a way out, so that we can begin to reposition ourselves in relation to our family, so that we can honor the past and love our family without suffering. Even when illness cannot be completely cured, Stephan shows how to bring awareness and light into the process. He reveals the love that is hidden behind the pain. This brings peace into the soul.This book will change how you view yourself, and if you have clients/patients, you will see them in a new, refreshing light.

Constellation as Healer By Francesca Mason Boring Even If It Costs Me My Life by Stephan Hausner is a beautiful introduction to Family Constellation as healer, even at the literal physical level. The descriptions of client interventions utilizing constellation work are both compassionate and engaging. Clearly illustrating the connection between past familial trauma and medical pathology, this book does a great deal to advance the understanding of the impact of trans-generational trauma.For facilitators of the method, the stance of the facilitator is instructive and encouraging.Stephan writes, "If I may wish one thing at the end of this book, it would be that the medical profession would include a consideration of trans-generational perspectives when looking at the origins and contributing factors in illness. In my opinion, systemic constellation work with health issues has earned the right to a place of regard within the field of medicine" (p.285).I would expand that wish to include those in the health field, the field of psychotherapy, counseling and social work, teaching, and a multiplicity of healing disciplines. By Udana Power I loved getting the overview of what Family Constellations are and how they work as The author took me through one experience of a constellation after another. The examples off-set with the explanations of what was forming in the constellations and combined with the facilitator's ability to ask the right questions and allow his intuition to add new information to the Field while at the same time allow the Field to guide him was truly informative. I will be reading this book again as I get deeper and deeper into this study. Everyone who is interested in self transformation must experience this work first hand. I've done every type of therapy and self development technique possible and was totally astounded by the accuracy of the Field and direct access to what was ACTUALLY standing I my way of moving forward in my life... Rather than just my story from my point of view of what happened. Because of this impartial view of what REALLY was happening in the household I grew up in, I gained a new understanding of the dynamics that were running my family. As a result old, stale, long-standing issues have been resolving so quickly that I feel like I've escaped prison...a prison of my own beliefs and misconceptions. Truly magnificent work. Especially for anyone who is struggling with difficult health issues.

Despite none of it being true there are some good nuggets of wisdom in there By Danny nixs This is an interesting book, it is an autobiography by a fictional character. If you are a fan of entourage or of the character Ari, this is what amounts to a peak behind the curtain of the man/the myth Ari Gold. While this a book full of Ari "stories" they are wrapped around rules that he lives by. Despite none of it being true there are some good nuggets of wisdom in there, and if you love the fast talking, sharp tongued agent there is no better way to hear these nuggets.I am a big fan of the show and his character, so I really liked the book.

I've ALWAYS been a fan of Ari and I try to model my business attitude on his. This book is PERFECT. Reminders and spurs you to get off your ASS and get your life in order! LOVE IT!!

Although mostly a fictional and entertaining storyline, the are some "gold nuggets" embedded in the book. For most entourage fans, this book will give you a whole new vision of the missing cues in the entourage storyline, but it will also give you another dose of the legendary Ari Gold.This book is also designed to motivated you to be the "best version of yourself" and to boost one's confidence. It does a great job on that through the words of Ari Gold. I initially bought it as a fan memorabilia, but it is also a source of """""wisdom""" from the great Ari Gold.

While the author sets out (successfully mind you) to tell us how partisan politics and greed undermined the value of ObamaCare, his greatest contribution to the reader is an inside look at how some bad laws are made and some good ones blocked, in Washington. But also hidden deep between the lines (and often not so deep) is his regret about how he and his science of medicine were treated in both his own profession and by others who very much needed to hear what he had to say. On the one hand, one can read in his words the feeling of regret and even sour grapes, and on the other, many who have been treated similarly in their own careers, could easily shout out, “Preach it brother and thank you for telling it like it is.”Leonard A. Zwelling is not afraid of hard work and his career in medicine for some forty plus years has proven it time and again. Having risen to the position of Vice-President of Research Administration at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, circumstances caused him to move on to the position of a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation health policy fellow serving on the minority staff of the US Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. How all that came about, what it meant to him as a person, what he learned in Washington, and why no “real” health reform will likely come to America in our generation or that of our children and grandchildren are the key themes of Red Kool-Aid Blue Kool-Aid.Older readers will clearly relate the use of Kool-Aid in the book’s title to the Jonestown massacres of 1978 when followers of the religious cult leader, Jim Jones, committed mass suicide by drinking cyanide-laced Kool-Aid in the jungles of Guyana at their leader’s command. Zwelling paints a similar picture of what goes on in Washington and especially Congress every day.He sets out some premises: As recently identified, medical errors (most occuring in hospitals) are a top killer of Americans annually; everyone’s idea of health care ‘reform’ is the same – “I pay less!” [but if someone pays less, someone needs to make less – how well is that working for us?]; and reform’s three components being i) increased access, ii) decreased cost, and iii) increased quality (or better outcomes) – but all three are a “zero sum game”. He points out that there is no supply and demand market curve in health care between the seller and the buyer of the services. In fact, the ‘market’ is established by ‘surrogates’, namely, government, insurers, and payers. Thus the impossibility of addressing the real needs of Americans.Turning to the political side, Zwelling drives home probably what we’ve already learned from watching the networks: if the majority party sticks together, it wins; elected officials know little about anything they vote on and it’s their staff that determines their vote; groupthink sets in and creates a logjam; and elected officials and staffers from both parties, on the whole, have no regard for relevant scientific facts from experts unless those inputs agree totally with and support their own pre-selected decision on an issue.As far as the actual ObamaCare bill itself that the Democrats rammed through goes, Zwelling (a dedicated Democrat who ended up working by chance for a Republican senator) says this: “In retrospect, it is clear that the forces blocking health care reform won, even though a bill was passed, for medicine is relatively unchanged by the 2010 ObamaCare legislation.” And, “It is far more likely that economic forces will determine the future of medicine, not legislative ones.” And, “A single payer universal system of basic health care was never in the cards.” Zwelling believes we won’t be ready to deal effectively with real healthcare reform until we first decide whether healthcare is a right or a privilege. Not to do so will only result in our splashing around in a wading pool rather than swimming like adults further out.There is a most interesting chapter on “If you’re right, but you’re rude, you’re wrong!” explaining how getting mad and shouting the truth will get you nowhere inside the system. (Probably explains why Presidential hopefuls like Donald Trump needed to get outside of the system while others like Cruz and associates wanted a foot in each camp.)Zwelling quotes a television news producer as describing Capitol Hill in a nutshell when he was asked what the key to success in TV news was. The producer is believed to have said, “Sincerity. If you can fake that, you can fake anything.” And there’s lots of that going around in Washington, according to the author.He ends his book with a David Letterman-style Top Ten list of changes America could make in the system today to improve things. That alone is worth the acquisition of Red Kool-Aid Blue Kool-Aid.One thing I did not do enough justice to in this review is the personal agonizing that the author went through in leaving his employer and trying Washington and then having to go back to medicine. Many a professional senior citizen or baby boomer could well identify with the feelings Zwelling experienced.Highly recommended for anyone interested in politics on either the Red or the Blue team, and from the perspective of an observer or a player. The Inadvertent Politico By richard andrassy This is the educational experience of an exceptionally well trained and respected physician thrown into the "reality" of Washington politics. As physicians, we try to go from the large differential diagnosis to the most likely cause as fast as possible. Not true in Law or Politics. I learned a lot about the games in Washington by reading this book. I think it will be eye opening to many physicians . We aren't considered big players in Washington and we are surely not organized within our own ranks. This book is not only educational, but easy to read and keeps your attention. Whether you are Red or Blue or "in-between" , you will enjoy the candid report of a physician's year on the Hill. Entertaining , enlightening and exasperating.

Mills Finally the truth, not perverted or embellished by the media, pundits or politicians. Dr. Zwelling uncovers the theme of the forces in play that gave birth to ObamaCare are not at all the ones the press would have us believe generated the legislation. In fact, money and petit politics had more to do with the bill than did improving the state of health care in America. Furthermore, the way legislation is supposed to be passed was subverted and most of the legislators apparently never even read the bill. It's here. It's clear. It's frightening.
