By A Reader in Washington DC Superb look at realities we know exist, such as survivor guilt, while placing them in the context of real soldiers and how they navigate emotional complexities that most people cannot even fathom. Sherman explores the concept of moral injury historically. culturally, and philosophically. Her prose is accessible and even healing to read. Wounded soldiers, women in combat, leaders feeling responsible for the loss of their men, people involved in court martials, so much is here to read and comprehend. This is not just ivory-tower contemplation. The author grew up in a military family and the authenticity shows. Brilliant work.

"Afterwar" is not always an easy read because it is a complex write By REV VINCENT Dr. Sherman once again steps up to the plate in supreme excellence. This is the 3rd book I have read by Nancy Sherman. Her theme and focus, logically, are different from her "The Untold War" and "Stoic Warriors". However, Sherman again leans heavily on Aristotle and Seneca with a few of the other Graeco-Roman intelligentsia thrown in. Sherman tells the individual stories of our Warriors, each wounded in his or her own way and how they assimilate back into civilian society and culture. "Afterwar" is not always an easy read because it is a complex write. One must "focus on the road ahead," so to speak! I have the highest respect for Nancy Sherman. She is a gifted, gifted philosopher/psychologist. Kudos, Nancy! You never fail to impress and energize the brain matter.
