About the Author Federico García Lorca (Fuente Vaqueros, provincia de Granada, 5 de junio de 1898entre Víznar y Alfacar, 18 de agosto de 1936). España. Poeta, dramaturgo y prosista . Adscrito a la llamada generación del 27, es el poeta de mayor influencia y popularidad de la literatura española del siglo XX. Nació en el municipio de Fuente Vaqueros, Granada (España), en el seno de una familia de posición económica desahogada, el 5 de junio de 1898 y fue bautizado con el nombre de Federico del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús García Lorca;su padre fue don Federico García Rodríguez, un hacendado, y su madre, doña Vicenta Lorca, maestra de escuela que fomentó el gusto literario a su hijo. Como estudiante fue algo irregular, abandonó la Facultad de Derecho de Granada para instalarse en la Residencia de Estudiantes de Madrid (19181928);pasado un tiempo regresó a la Universidad de Granada donde se graduó como abogado. En 1918 publicó su primer libro Impresiones y paisajes, costeado por su padre. En 1920 se estrenó en teatro su obra El maleficio de la mariposa, en 1921 se publicó Libro de poemas y en 1923, se pusieron en escena las comedias de títeres La niña que riega la Albahaca y el príncipe preguntón. En esta época frecuenta activamente a los poetas de su generación que permanecen en España: Jorge Guillén, Pedro Salinas, Gerardo Diego, Dámaso Alonso, Rafael Alberti, y sobre todo Buñuel y Dalí, a quien después le tributó Oda a Salvador Dalí. El pintor, por su parte, pintó los decorados del primer drama del granadino: Mariana Pineda. En 1928 publicó la revista literaria Gallo, de la cual salieron solamente dos números. En 1929 marcha a Nueva York. Para entonces se habían publicado, además de los antes mencionados, sus libros Canciones (1927) y el Primer romancero gitano (1928), su obra poética más popular y más accesible. De su viaje a Nueva York nace el libro Poeta en Nueva York. En 1930 fue a La Habana, donde escribió parte de sus obras Así pasen cinco años y El público, ese año regresó a España donde fue recibido en Madrid con la noticia de que su farsa popular La zapatera prodigiosa estaba en escena. En 1931 se instaura la Segunda República española y esta nombró a Fernando de los Ríos como Ministro de Instrucción Pública el cual fue su principal mecenas durante los primeros años del poeta en España. García Lorca fue nombrado, bajo el patrocinio oficial, codirector de la compañía estatal de teatro «La barraca» donde produjo, dirigió, escribió, y adaptó varias obras teatrales. Escribió en este período Bodas de Sangre, Yerma y Doña Rosita la soltera. En 1933 viajó a Argentina y su puesta de La dama boba de Lope de Vega atrajo a más de sesenta mil personas. Entre este año y 1936 escribió Diván de Tamarit, Llanto por Ignacio Sánchez Mejías, La casa de Bernarda Alba y trabajó en La destrucción de Sodoma. Tras el estallido de la Guerra Civil española, Lorca rehusó el exilio ofrecido por Colombia y México, cuyos embajadores previeron que el poeta pudiera ser víctima de un atentado. Tras una denuncia anónima, el 16 de agosto de 1936 fue detenido en la casa de su amigo, el también poeta Luis Rosales, quien obtuvo la promesa de que sería puesto en libertad «si no existía denuncia en su contra». La orden de ejecución fue dada por el gobernador civil de Granada, José Valdés Guzmán. Valdés contaba con el visto bueno del general Queipo de Llano, a quien se consultó sobre qué hacer con Lorca. Parece que fue fusilado la madrugada del día 18 de agosto de 1936.

It is one of seven of his works profiled in "The New Essential Guide to Spanish Reading" published by America Reads Spanish, a campaign aimed to increase the use and reading of the Spanish language through the thousands of libraries, schools and book stores in the US. As reviewed in the guide,and "Based on a true story, Blood Wedding is one of the most powerful, inventive and recognized plays written in modern Spanish literature."

Bodas de sangre By Dallas Fawson Bodas de sangre, una de las tragedias más famosas de Federico García Lorca, es una obra que funciona en muchos niveles. Aunque la trama en sí no sea muy original, la manera en que se cuenta sí es innovadora: el uso de los colores, el lenguaje popular andaluz y la poesía crean un ambiente convincente. Es un mundo que es bello y siniestro al mismo tiempo- hay, dentro de canciones y poesías superficialmente bellas, agüeros violentos, y la inevitabilidad de la violencia permea la obra entera. García Lorca nos muestra, a través de la obra, una Andalucía llena de mito, fatalismo y conflicto atávico. De hecho, se puede decir que la tierra misma es el protagonista de la obra- hay referencias constantes a las flores, las hierbas (que, en la obra dramática y poética de García Lorca, representan la muerte) y a la tierra en sí, que se presenta como un leviatán que controla el destino de los seres humanos. En este sentido, la obra tiene un elemento mítico que es similar a las tragedias griegas. Sin embargo, en Bodas de sangre este elemento mítico no se encuentra en los dioses, sino en la tierra dura, algo que me recuerda la poesía de Antonio Machado (el poema "La tierra de Alvargonzález", por ejemplo).No es la mejor tragedia de García Lorca (La casa de Bernarda Alba la es), pero es una buena introducción a su mundo dramático.Además, quisiera mencionar que la edición de Cátedra es la mejor que he visto: contiene una buena introducción sobre los problemas de la tragedia en el mundo moderno, y cómo García Lorca supera estos obstáculos. Además, contiene notas al pie de las páginas que explican ciertos símbolos y regionalismos.

By paul rodriguez This was such a beautiful tribute to all families who have passed. I would recommend this read as I found it educational and uplifting.Honoring Our Santos takes you on a journey of love and honor. Beautifully illustrated stories about our nation's customs and traditions. Plus this book is a helpful guide in looking at your own mortality and makes you think about what I must do to help my family when I pass. I love the content, there needs to be more books like this one where family, love and traditions collide. Flora's Legacy Book series is a nice refreshing series at amazon one I will continue to support. I know my family who served in World War II are proud of the messages being presented in this book. Dodo Collections brings you another classic from Irvin S. Cobb, ‘Cobb’s Anatomy.’ Irving S. Cobb discusses the human body and its various strange parts in his own inimitable hilarious style. He discusses the tummy and the problems of having a large one; teeth, hair and finally hands and feet.  Cobb joined the staff of the magazine Saturday Evening Post during 1911, and covered the Great War for the magazine. At the same time, he wrote a book about his experiences, published during 1915, titled Paths Of Glory. After a second visit to France to cover the Great War, Cobb publicized the achievements of the unit known as theHarlem Hellfighters, most notably, Croix de Guerre recipients Henry Lincoln Johnson and Needham Roberts. His article “Young Black Joe,” published on August 24, 1918 in theSaturday Evening Post and later republished in Cobb’s book, The Glory of the Coming, highlighted the discipline and courage displayed by black American soldiers fighting in Europe during World War I. The three-page article and half-page photograph reached a national audience of more than two million readers, and was widely reprinted in the black press.

12 of 12 people found the following review helpful. hysterically funny By CAtkins this book was written in the early part of the 20th century, when vocabularies were more interesting. This is more or less a collection of Mr. Cobb's thoughts on various parts of the anatomy, and the trials and tribulations those parts inflict. I found myself laughing outloud while reading parts of it, because the situations he finds himself in are still a part of life today! I'm so thankful to whoever is responsible for the preservation of this wonderful work.

Paladino I had to stop reading at various points in Cobb's story because I couldn't continue because I was laughing so hard I couldn't see the page. His anatomical discourse is not from comparative anatomy or any other scientific source, but rather from his own experiences and observations. These were for me more than simply funny, but also contained a commentary on attitudes regarding the different portions of our anatomy. The section on "Tummies" was wonderful.The down side of his narrative was that on certain occasions, the awkwardness of his phrasing resulted in my having to double back and try to sort out what he was saying.Despite these minor glitches, I still rate this short narrative five stars.I will be reading more of Irvin Cobb's work.

I was hoping to find a simple anatomy book with pictures. This little gem is a small collection of stories about various simple workings of the body and its basic parts. If you want to take a break and have a chuckle, check this oldie but goodie out.

This story is in no way original, but that’s not the point. What the play sets out to accomplish is not only to weave together several famous stories, but also to reinvigorate them, bring new life to them, and hopefully inspire people to go back and read the source material. This play is based on several Shakespeare plays, on some works by Chaucer, Milton, Virgil, and on works by a few other great writers. It is an attempt to do to Shakespeare what Shakespeare so famously did to other authors, which is, to take their stories and give his own interpretation of them. The basic plot of this play has directly been taken from such works as Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo and Juliet, and The Aeneid, to name a few (in total, about twenty works are treated here at various times). The plot lines have been woven together in a new way to create a kind of collage out of the source material. Each scene revolves around a central quote to which the scene is alluding, but the way in which the quote is interpreted, and the way in which the characters respond is original. If this work fails in its ambitious goal to bring all these stories together, hopefully it will succeed in restoring interest in the classic works that are treated. While this story may not live up to the stories that it depicts, it is only told in the hopes that one may read this story, and then go back and read all the stories to which the author alludes. If in the end this project ultimately fails, it will fail only insofar as these works are no longer read, no longer enjoyed. To read them is the ultimate aim; that is the ultimate goal.

About the Author Robert Kilcrease once worked as a farmhand on a small farm for a woman named Buttercup, whom he loved dearly. After letting his love be known, he set sail for the new world to make his fortune, but was unfortunately attacked by the Dread Pirate Roberts, who supposedly killed Robert Kilcrease, much to the dismay of Buttercup. Unbeknownst to her, he actually served as an understudy to the Dread Pirate Roberts, took on the name of the Dread Pirate Roberts, and when Buttercup was taken hostage by some thieves in a conspiracy designed to implicate a warring nation in her murder plot, Robert Kilcrease came to her rescue, and defeated first one thief with his swordsmanship, then another thief he bested with strength, and finally another thief he outsmarted. All was not rosy, as Buttercup was engaged to another man at this time, and her fiancé, a prince, had contracted the thieves to murder her so he could start a war, and he sent Robert Kilcrease to the Pit of Despair and tortured him, finally killing him. However, two of the thieves that he bested rescued him, brought him back to life, and helped Robert Kilcrease assault the castle in which Buttercup was being held, so he could save Buttercup from her fiancé, which he did, and they lived happily ever after. He then went on to write Parasites.

By Marlene Colonna I have never been someone interested in Shakespeare much less Chaucer until I read Pastiche. Pastiche is a Shakespearean play that meet How I meet your mother that meet Karl Marx. This comedy makes fun of every typical failed relationship by displaying how ridiculous they look when played out and shows how simple the answer to true love can be. My favorite character in the play is not a character I have meet in any other play, the editor! All versions of Shakespeare's plays are filled with distracting foot notes to tell the reader what they are supposed to be reading. The editor of Pastiche is no exception. The book is almost half foot notes. The difference is, the editor is hilarious. He is out of his mind. His interjections are so blatantly crude they are hilarious. Especially when hes not going on off on tangents questioning reality, getting drunk or whatever crazy thing hes doing he is reading the play for us. Which for me is necessary when it comes to things as in the Canterbury Tales.

Weird right, I thought I heard them all. But by taking diffrent famous Shakseapre plots and twisting them Robert Kilcrease makes much more then a love triangle from Twelth Night, suck it Twilight! All of the characters show a type of love we have all felt. From an overbearing love too an unrequited love. The melodramatic tendencies of the main character Michael would be nauseating with out the comic relief of the editor.The footnotes make up most of the play, which is insane. And the editor who wrote the foot notes is also insane so its quite fitting. He has an obsession with the nature of reality, and our perception and falls victim to hallucinations. If you want to question everything you ever thought of a good love story while laughing your pants off this book is for you!
