Behind Those Eyes: Life on the streets of London: A Novella (An Amanda Green Novella Book 1) (Volume 1), by Amanda Green About the Author I am Amanda Green, self published author of six inspiring books. Aside from writing and social networking, I spend a lot of time with my pets; a handsome cat called Titus, a pretty hamster called Molly and tropical fish. I strongly believe in pet animal therapy as being good for our mind, body and soul and I promote the fostering and adopting of animals as opposed to private breeding and purchase. I detest animal cruelty. I love eating out, reviewing restaurants, travel, days out, campaigning for the precious Orang-utan, the issues of unsustainable palm oil production, seeing my family, reading, theatre, films, TV and cooking. I have travelled on/off across the world, taking in twenty five Countries - living and working at times in Japan, Thailand and Australia and have enjoyed varying jobs. I run five personal websites and my writing and photography work published in various magazines and local newspapers. 'My Alien Self: My Journey Back to Me' is my self published memoir of my journey through mental illness to recovery. '39' is the sequel. I want to inspire others that it is possible to recover and have a life worth living. Many people do not understand mental illness and judge people unfairly, so I created www.amandagreenauthor.co.uk where I publish articles on the topics covered in my story and campaign to 'stop the stigma surrounding mental illness'. I am currently studying level 4 Counselling skills at college as I would love to be able to help others' facing issues. My placement will be with homeless people who need help to move on from their adversities. I also write thought provoking, inspiring fiction with the theme of overcoming adversities (abuse, homelessness, mental health, relationships and more) I regularly post blogs about coping strategies, inspirational things to do, Borderline Personality disorder, depression, Obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety/panic attacks, thyroid issues, eating disorders (Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia), alcohol and drug abuse, sexual abuse/rape, Quetiapine (Seroquel anti-psychotics) and Citalopram (anti-depressant), therapies such as Cognitive behavioural therapy and paranoia, dissociation and psychosis - all of which I have experienced in one way or another either myself or those I know. By Paula Rose Michelson Showing the very human side of the homeless and those dealing with issues that made or forced them into this situation, Amanda Green forgoes the need for the editing to be pristine so that this author's book flows as effortlessly as does the dialogue in many of my favorite British movies and sitcoms. As I eagerly gobbled up the words, I found myself thinking that many of the films Hugh Grant stared in had a cast of actors who could bring this story to life in a way that shows, as the author did, that all of us are at times emotionally homeless, and at other times are so needed that we abandon our needs making us feel, possibly more homeless, than those who have no place to call home.Though at times the stories pacing changed due to changing from one characters story to another, I read the book in one sitting because while checking out the books description on Amazon, I read, "Will you work out what they have in common?" and had to discover the answer. I was not disappointed and know you won't be either when you dive into "Behind Those Eyes" and discover the answer that I did.In closing, all I can say is, "Well done Amanda Green! Well done indeed!" For where some writers might choose this difficult topic to teach or preach you showed us the heart of the matter from the inside out and back again!Always writing about choices and how God can help us change, Paula Rose Michelson wrote the Amazon Best Selling Christian self-help book "How Did We Become Angry?" That book and her three sweet Christian fictions with a Messianic twist and a hint of history: "Beginning Anew: The Naomi Chronicles" and "Casa de Naomi: The House of Blessing, Books One and Two", are available on Amazon.

Barcelos I've just finished this novella, and I must say that it will stay with me for a long, long time. This story is deep and so well written, philosophical even. Although it happens in London, it could be anywhere in the world, because the reasons that lead people to become homeless are, in general, universal.Mrs. Green paints a very believable and poignant tale of apparent unrelated people, who are then interwoven brilliantly, and in a heart wrenching way.The highest point of this novella, for me, is that the author gives a voice to people who are mostly unheard, unseen, or rejected, silenced. She brings to our attention the reality of their hard and suffered lives, making the readers start to pay more attention to those nameless faces we may see everyday asking for money. They all have a story, they all have a past, they all are human beings too, and we should never treat them like less than that. Thanks, Amanda Green to make me think about it, to open my eyes to this sad reality.

A Gentle Reminder Not to Judge Others By Marcha Fox This story was a gentle reminder not to judge the homeless since you do not know the story behind their situation. This is certainly a worthy message those of us who are more fortunate should heed. I found the viewpoint switching a bit confusing at first and while the author did a good job of keeping the narrative journalistic I never really connected with any of the characters or felt emotionally involved with the story. It's possible that being detached is a strong point, however, rather than a deficiency, since this way the message was delivered without undue sentimentality which could have weakened it impact. All in all, it's a good story with an admonition all should heed.
