A patchwork quilt of theories and enthusiasms By Kevin Killian Geoffrey Block knows everything there is to know about Rodgers, but frustratingly this book is arranged on the lines of a patchwork quilt; if you're looking for something on a particular show (say FLOWER DRUM SONG) you're wasting your time here. Perhaps to see Rodgers through fresh eyes, Block narrows down his focus and his individual chapters pick up on very rarefied aspects of Rodgers' career. If there is just about nothing on FLOWER DRUM SONG or THE SOUND OF MUSIC, you'll find a learned monograph on the three versions of the TV project CINDERELLA. The learning's worn lightly and the writing is everywhere vivid and provocative.As in his previous book THE RICHARD RODGERS READER, Block attempts a giant salvage operation, making a serious case for the worthwhileness, indeed the greatness, of Rodgers' final five musicals. I don't know if anyone will be convinced that TWO BY TWO or REX are great works of musical theater, but it's entertaining, just as a dip into the Bacon-wrote-Shakespeare camp might be. This is a book that will start a hundred arguments among lovers of Richard Rodgers, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Basis of homeopathy By Tenna Merchent Any true student of homeopathy needs to read this book.It can be a little difficult to wade through as it was written originally by Samuel Hahnemann in 1833 and our way of speaking has changed quite a bit since then. But it is well worth it.For instance, he talks about how the common practitioner singles out the most problematic symptom of a case, ignoring all the others, and prescribes something that will produce the exact opposite of the symptoms to be cured. This of course is not working with the body, but against it. In the case of a fever, the body is working to kill the invading virus. Or in the case of excess mucous, the body is shedding the virus and dead white blood cells. When you take something that stops the mucous, it is harder for the body to cleanse.Homeopathy is based on the concept of "like cures like". So for allergies, a microdose of the garden onion is given, because in large doses, it causes watering eyes and a runny nose. In this tiny does, it stimulates the body to do the exact opposite.

15 of 15 people found the following review helpful. A solid guide! By Mr. Hammer I'm currently level 15, and figured I'd write up a quick review of this guide. I was new to the Witcher series and figured I'd pick up the guide for some tips and story backdrop. There are points in the story where you meet folks from previous Witcher games, and I had no idea who these people were. You could have saved them? You could have beat them to a pulp? The book starts off with bios of all the main characters which is nice. The guide is most helpful with quests. There's an index page near the front of the book that lists all the quests alphabetically on one page, and refers you to the detailed quest help on another page. This quick reference is awesome, and saves you a ton of time thumbing through the book. If you're stuck on say: "Scavenger Hunt: Cat School Gear", the book quest overview tells you to go to page 329 where's there are 2 detailed pages on finding what you need, and what you shouldn't miss. There's a full bestiary with details on all the creatures and oils and spells to help defeat them. All in all, one of the better guides. They crammed a lot into 500 pages. I just wish the font was bigger, but then again ... I'm getting old.

Perfect for completionists. Each quest type has a list at the beginning of their respective sections which makes for a handy quest list if you want to experience everything. I haven't bought a guide for a game since Dark Souls but with hundreds of hours of content, The Witcher 3 seemed like it would be be needed. There are plenty of quests that could be missable if not for the area maps in the back of the book as well. Glad I bought it.

About the Author Raised in the Chicago suburb of Glendale Heights, Jim Hoffmann attended the public schools: Charles G. Reskin Elementary, Marquardt Middle School, and Glenbard North High School. He received his B.A. in History and German from Eastern Illinois University (1986), as well as his M.S. in Education from Northern Illinois University (1990). Starting in 1986, Hoffmann has taught social studies in Aurora, Illinois, San Jose, Stockton, and Hesperia, California. He currently teaches at Shadow Ridge School in Hesperia, a top-notch independent study program for 7-12. Hoffmann has always liked to write and has had plenty of practice as a teacher. He resides with his family in Apple Valley, California.

Not sure if I would call anyone the Muse of Park Ridge in this band, but Ellison was terrific and much missed and really one of the great talents from DuPage County. They were very competent musically with a terrific pop sense- it is worth it to dig out their versions of Wait A Million Years, etc, on CDs- sort of hidden gems. Jim had his head screwed on straight.

A must for any Ish fan By Nora Wittstruck The writing is a bit disjointed and the storytelling is non-traditional but the primary source material from which the author draws is stellar. Any fan of MI will find this a valuable and informative read; it also provides an interesting glimpse into the world of early 90s rock history in Chicago.

About the Author Allison Hawn was born in Idaho and has spent her life obtaining adventures. The daughter of a musician, she was brought up all over the United States with occasional dalliances into foreign lands. She holds a degree in psychology from Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho, where she also had a weekly humor column with a small time newspaper "The Crusader." "Life is a Circus Run by a Platypus" is her first creative published work. Her second book, "Life is a Pirate Ship Run by a Velociraptor" is due to be released through Sweatshoppe Publications later this year. She currently resides in Spokane, Washington, where she works with the homeless, domestic violence victims, and other disenfranchised populations, but calls a myriad of locations home.

Allison Hawn has chosen to laugh and not only does she laugh, she makes us laugh too with this book of very short stories that pokes fun at many of the lemons life seems to have thrown her way. It is well written and edited and each story stands on its own for those who wish to nibble on the sweet succulent whole. They are also well-connected by Allison's straight-to-the-point telling of a story, not to mention her blunt sense-of-humor and fast as lightning wit, and go down well as a whole for those who simply cannot stop at one. And believe me, you'll find it hard to stop at one. Five stars, and a hell of a lot of laughs. PS Being an artistic type, I tend to first judge a book by its cover. This book deserves an extra star for its cover which is one of the better ones, making it SIX stars and a hell of a lot of laughs.

12 of 13 people found the following review helpful. Circus Run By Simou I read the first two chapters of Allison's book and was blown away with her understated humor! Easy to read and relate to! This book would be a great pick-me-up in short bursts....not unlike Erma Bombeck.

The humor is unforgettable and I was constantly laughing out loud, to the confusion of the people who happened to be in the vicinity. I found myself either nodding along in agreement at those moments we have all experiences, or shaking my head in disbelief at those moments that seem almost too impossible to not be true. The writing style is so easy to read I had to stop myself from reading the whole book in one sitting. However, I think my favorite part is how every story has real-life applications. I found myself wondering mid-story how this could possible apply to my life, but I think Ms. Hawn did a fabulous job tying in each fantastical experience to a practical life lesson. I will definitely be reading this again and I recommend it to anyone who needs a reason to laugh, or even just reassurance that your life is a lot closer to normal than you realize.

Medical care under less than ideal conditions, colourful characters, social life, beauty of the land, and yes, murders, all provide a historical cultural record of daily life during that time through the eyes of a newly graduated English doctor. The author paints a fascinating portrait of good and bad leading to tremendous personal growth. When he and his wife, whom he married in Tanzania before his departure, revisit the area in 2002 he reveals inevitable change, some of it disturbing.
