This book is made for anyone who is already familiar with the concepts of retorative justice and wants to go deeper into the process. He covers the foundations, stakeholders and organizational roles, and practices. The case studies and sources he quotes are most useful to understanding the principles of restorative justice that he develops. A must for anyone seaching to improve our current retributive justice system while strengthening families and communities.

0 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Boring, Philosopical, Could be better By Elliott C. Hahn I hated this book. Absolutely hated it. It is an absolute drag to read. There are zero concrete facts, statistics, or anything for that matter. It is a philosophy book, nothing more. I am a grad student and have to read a lot, but when it comes to this book I always have a hard time. My recommendation: If you are going to take a class that requires this book you should consider taking another class, or wait until the very end of your schooling career to take a class requiring this book.

Excerpt from A Manual of Military Surgery: Or Hints on the Emergencies of Field, Camp and Hospital PracticeThe duties and requirements of military are essentially similar to those of civil surgery. It is founded upon the same knowledge of anatomy, medicine, and the associate sciences; it demands the same qualifications, physical, moral, and intellectual. The difference consists in the application of our knowledge rather than in its range or depth. The civil surgeon remains at home; the military follows the army, examines recruits for the public service, and superintends the health of the troops. If the former is well educated, he will be quite as competent, at any time, as the latter to perform these duties; for the emergencies of civil are often not less trying than those of military practice, although they may not be on so large a scale.The best civil have often also been the best military surgeons. There's a chuckle on every other page, which is an exceptionally high hit rate. Primarily a funny parody of the gritty action genre, it's also a parody of fiction writing generally, so whatever your usual genre, you'll find plenty of laughs here.As a writer myself, it was a real joy to see the rules of fiction writing blown to smithereens in such a hilarious way. It was a welcome relief from all the uptightness of the craft.Mustard's writing is full of energy, pace, and almost relentless humour. Every time you pick the book up, you know you're going to have fun.Following up with another book of the same character and genre while sustaining fresh gags at this level is going to be a tall order. Personally, I’d love to see him have a go at other genres, especially literary.

Klein So I picked up this book based on a recommendation from of all places a rugby podcast from the UK. I figured it might be worth a chuckle or two, but instead of that I got one of the funniest parodies I've ever read. The story zips along at a good pace hitting every joke and stereotype known to man for New York and a crime novel while the totally unreliable narrator breaks through the fourth wall with glee. There were more than one moments of laughing out loud, and while I'm not especially a fan of crime novels, I eagerly await the next installment.

Too much emphasis on race , color, religion. He explains every little detail, like he's talking to children. If this book had a charge, i would have refunded after the first 2 chapters. The main character(FRANK STOKER ) Makes Jack Reacher look like a pussy cat. Stoker is Superman in a leather jacket.

Johnny tries to go straight by fumbling in the real estate market.The unique character Nick Tory has created in Johnny Tee is a cross between Rodney Dangerfield and Raoul Duke, with shades of Forrest Gump. He does everything one would not expect him to do, yet displays some kind of idiotic genius in the process.`Johnny Real Estate' is absolutely hilarious. Follow the ramblings of Johnny Tee as he seeks the coveted "Blue Jacket" in real estate sales —you won't be disappointed, and can read it in an hour.

As keeping with what this reviewer has observed of the author’s work, this novella tells of the adventures, or misadventures, experienced by the knockabout anti-hero, Johnny Tee.As the name suggests, the ne’er-do-well Johnny ventures into the world of real estate, which some would consider an already maligned profession with disreputable operators, so Johnny should find his niche. The story does not disappoint, as Johnny uses Machiavellian tactics to sell properties previously considered unsellable in his quest to earn a Blue Jacket, which is considered the Holy Grail for all realtors employed by the agency.Tory writes in a fluent style with a tongue-in-cheek tone, and his story is delightfully non-didactic as the reader follows Johnny through amusing scrape after amusing scrape.Johnny Real Estate is available for Amazon.com, and this reviewer is looking forward to reading more adventures from, to use a hackneyed phrase, ‘this loveable loser’.Four out of five.

He wants a profession which requires absolutely no experience and so decides to become an real estate agent. He manages to get a job at Hoffman and Mills where he's given a seemingly impossible task called The Gauntlet by his boss, the power crazy Kenny Mills.Johnny doesn't take no for an answer, adopting an unconventional approach to his work.This book is very funny and original and the writing is fast paced with plenty of twists and turns. Johnny Tee is completely lacking in common sense, self obsessed and totally oblivious to the people around him and the effect he has on them, but, at the same time, he's a determined risk taker. Due to a certain naivety, Johnny fails to see the dangers and this leads him into all sorts of tricky situations.An enjoyable, unpredictable and entertaining read.

About the Author Michelle May Krack LPN, whose name is frequently mispronounced Crack, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1989 when she was thirty-one. The story, her story, is written for her immediate family, extended family and those dealing with mental health issues. She believes recovery is possible with mental illness. Michelle has lived in Evansville, Indiana all of her life, fifty-six years. Currently, she works at the PEACE Zone, a consumer-based recovery center as a Peer Recovery Advocate. The PEACE Zone has had thirty-seven hundred visits from over three hundred visitors since its opening last year. Michelle also leads outreach programs at the local hospitals. She has been married to husband Tim for thirty-six years. They have four grown children and one granddaughter. She is a former Volunteer firefighter/EMT, nurse and rural mail carrier. Her hobbies, besides writing, include gardening and art in various mediums.

It is a chronicle of Michelle's numerous episodes of Manic-Depressive Disorder. Then, as if that weren't enough, she also has to fight long lasting complications due to Lyme and Carbon Monoxide poisoning.Biographies often lack Plot, because Real Life just doesn't happen that way—at least Not Often.But in this book you will encounter foreshadowing and even suspense as you read on wondering how it will all turn out…There is no "Wrap-Up-All-the-Loose-Threads" Conclusion though. Real life isn't like that either—and her story is ongoing.The only real criticism that I have is this:Doggone Michelle, you could have included some Picture!…..RVM45

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Inspirational Story By Recent Reader I found the book to be an enjoyable and poignant story about one person's struggles with bi-polar disorder. This readable, heartwarming story puts a human face on an illness so often stigmatized and misunderstood by our society. Ms Krack shares interesting insights into the subjective experience of mental illness, as well as its effect on families and communities. The book does a great job of highlighting how critical family support and understanding can be to the recovery process. As a mental health professional, it was particularly useful to hear her perspective and experience with the treatment process.This is a story of resilience, courage and hope that should strike a blow against the stigma of mental illness. It is both and educational and inspirational story that will resonate with individuals recovering from mental illness, as well as with their families. Mental health professionals should also find it interesting and helpful in their efforts to support individuals on their path of recovery from mental illness.

What is so amazing is that Michelle tells her story (the good By Debbie Reis What an insightful look into mental illness from the perspective of a victim of the disease. The book not only chronicles the days, weeks, months, and years of Michelle's bi-polar episodes, but the manner in which Michelle tells her story is sometimes indicative of how the brain works (or doesn't work) as she writes about her manic episodes. What is so amazing is that Michelle tells her story (the good, the bad, and the ugly) yet Michelle inspires all to look at mental illness in a very personal way. Her family, especially her husband, works through the difficult periods in a way that displays his love of Michelle and the sanctity of marriage. One finishes the book wondering not only how Michelle survived, but how truly wonderful her family supported her. Congratulations, Michelle, on being brave enough to tell your story and open the minds of people who don't really understand the disease.
