By Diane Estrella I did read the author's first book, The Shift and enjoyed hearing about Tory's struggles with food and her weight throughout her life. This book continues on in that same vein, in that sometimes we do slip back into our old thoughts and habits. I appreciate the author being truthful in how this is not a one-time shift but a continual shift-ing to get to, and stay in, the place you desire to be. The author includes many different ways to jump start your thoughts when we slip up, to continue on in the shift and help readers get back on track in both their bodies and minds. I agree that sometimes it can be small steps that take you to the bigger victory, but sometimes we are able to take giant leaps forward too.I do love Tory's small quotes of her own and others that she includes at the beginning and end of each chapter. They are beautiful nuggets of encouragement.Finally, I do not feel that the author needed to drop an f-bomb in her book. This is a self-help book and I do not feel it needed to be spelled out necessarily. It could have been abbreviated as F--- or in some other way, but I do not think the actual word was necessary to include. (She did include "F***" numerous times in another chapter as well.)I received a free copy of this book from Hachette Books, for my honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

By John Martin Shift for Good is Tory Johnson’s follow up to her best seller, The Shift in which she detailed her successful effort to lose a lot of weight. Johnson is featured on the morning TV program Good Morning America. In this book she gives advice on a wide variety of additional areas including:Learning how to relax.Do you best each day.Get a good night’s sleep.Let go of troubling situations, forgive and be grateful.Be willing to admit your mistakes.Pay attention to personal and household finances.Surround yourself with good people.Get a pet. and finally,It is up to you what happens to you.The most meaningful part of the book to me comes at the end where she provides five questions to ask yourself for successful shifting:1. How fed up are you with the present situation?2. What are you willing to give up?3. What is your plan?4. What is your daily accountability? And5. How will you develop patience and celebrate your victories?Finally Ms. Johnson says there are six things to pay attention to:1. Love and relationships;2. Healthy mind and body;3. Satisfying work and wealth;4. Impact through giving;5. Calm environment;6. Curiosity in action.The book is written in a simplistic style and there is not much supporting evidence for her views, which are commonplace. The book is quite short and can be read in one sitting. It focuses on women, but of course the ideas are equally applicable to men.

Easy encouraging read - great tips for life "after" the new you By Dana L We see A list celebs that lose the weight (and many that put it back on) but few share their struggles in any kind of real way. That's nothing new for Tory - she did it in the first volume. But my experience (and it seems hers too) is that its even harder to maintain than to get it off in the first place.Tory's "keeping-it-real style" makes this "How to AFTER..." an easy, encouraging read. There's a plethora of weight loss/diet/health books out there but how many have a volume dedicated to what to do AFTER you have initial success?Rarer still is a book that focuses on more than simple diet and exercise. I love that Tory talks about meditation and tiaras (for those who don't have the budget for acupuncture..) This book reads like a buffet - pick and choose what works for you and leave the rest for someone else.Most of all, this is one of the few times I can remember someone reminding me that it's not all unicorns and rainbows when the weight is gone. There's still work to be done - and I am the same person inside that I was 60 lbs ago.Thanks Tory - I shifted with you and I'll hold on to my shift, despite the occasional setback, by opening my Shift for Good and choosing a few ways to pick myself up and get back on track.An easy read offering an encouraging and real look at life after weight loss and some short cuts to the ongoing work that needs to be done to wrap your head around the "new" you.
