Review “An important part of a strong yoga practice is to create the space and time in your own home. This guide is filled with motivational stories, expert tips and advice, sequences, and beautiful photographs that offer a personal glimpse into the home yoga regimen of some of the world’s best teachers and practitioners.”-Travel the Unbeaten Path, A Quick Guide to Yoga for Traveling Mamas"This series of heartfelt essays and photographs shows an inside look at where people practice yoga in their homes. The book features interviews with famous teachers and practitioners such as Seane Corn, Rodney Yee, David Life and Sharon Gannon, Shiva Rea, and Elena Brower as they reflect on practical tips, sequencing ideas, and inspiration found in the teachings of yoga. What I love most about this book is that it is very down-to-earth and accessible -- you don't have to have years of experience to feel comfortable reading it and taking some of the wisdom and applying it to your own practice. There's something very real, tangible, and lovely about this collection; reading it feels like being in someone's actual living room with your mats rolled out side by side, just chatting and breathing and trying out the poses.” -Alive in the Fire.com"[Yoga at Home] offers everything needed to begin or enrich practicing yoga at home. . . The book is filled with useful tips, motivational stories, and practical advice."-YogaDigest.com“In Yoga at Home, author Linda Sparrowe presents 55 yogis who open their homes and hearts to offer tips for readers who want to discover their own personal practices, rather than simply repeating what they practice in class. Yoga at Home is richly produced with color photos that demonstrate just how little space is needed for a home practice. All the teachers encourage readers to start in a way that supports the time they can devote to home practice, among life’s many requirements. The idea is that every experience is new and can produce observations that yogis may not otherwise recognize. For example, many of the teachers encourage readers to practice in the presence of their children, pets, and partners, and to notice the effect on the whole home. Yoga at Home is presented in an open and conversational tone, encouraging readers to explore their spiritual nature.” -New York Journal of Books"This book has really opened my eyes. Yoga at Home can be read and enjoyed not only by Yoga students and teachers, but by novices . . . It's an excellent introduction into the world of Yoga and everyone who reads it will be sure to glean something of value from between its covers."-SNUG HARBOR BAY BLOG"Calling all yogis with (or those wanting to create) a home practice: This beautifully inspirational book offers us an intimate look beyond the walls and into the sacred home spaces created by a number of beloved teachers. . . There is a vibrant authenticity to the book, with the colorful pages converying a warm sense of welcome from such empowering, creative teachers."-LA YOGA MAGAZINE

Johns “Yoga at Home” by Linda Sparrowe is to me a book of stunning yoga poetry; with each contributor’s chapter as a verse in an epic poem. The vibrant photos of over fifty yogis and yoginis, personal stories and insight, as well as ideas for home practice, weave and dance as they blend into a book of whole yoga. The diversity of philosophy, practice, age and ability featured in Linda’s book, help me, a newly certified yoga teacher in rural Colorado, feel part of a larger welcoming yoga community. From creating a space for personal practice to using props and tools as well as the practices and sequences, “Yoga at Home” is a never-ending source of practical and spiritual ideas and insights for my personal practice and for teaching my students. Each time I open the book, I step into the radiant world of yoga, which fills my soul with deep delight. “Yoga at Home” has become my personal encyclopedia of all things yoga. If I had to choose only one book from my shelf full of yoga books, “Yoga at Home” would jump into my hands. These words from the Linda’s “Introduction” resonate in my soul, “Regardless of how each one of these contributors defines personal space, one teaching emerges loud and clear: it’s not so much what you do but the intention you set….that makes it a practice. Allow (this book) to inspire you…and free you from the tyranny of exactitude and expectations.”May this book enrich all who read it as fully as it has blessed me. Namaste.Sherry Johns RYT 200

By Shereen Raucci Once I began reading Yoga At Home, by Linda Sparrowe, I felt a wave of relief and a burst of inspiration. For many years I have been interested in yoga but felt self-conscious attending a class(being a newbie), rarely made time for myself, and the thought of doing yoga at home left me feeling overwhelmed, not knowing where to begin. I enjoyed reading that pretty much any area can be 'your yoga space'. It can be a room totally devoted to yoga or depending on your space, it can be small area in a multi-purpose room - there is no right or wrong place as long as you are comfortable there. I even smiled as I read the chapter from Bas Van Koll who has a goal of 30 minutes of yoga each morning, even though it is far from tranquil as his kids climb on him he makes it work - to me, that signifies that many of us cannot have that alone time but we can still benefit greatly from meditation and yoga. Linda captured an array of opinions and ideas that left me yearning to learn even more. I have read through most of the book and find it hard to put it down. It is captivating, motivational and the photos help capture attention.

Matsumura Incredible book, contains a true behind the scenes view of some of the west's most accomplished yogis. This book rightly draws attention to the heart of the Yoga described in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika which is the home practice. The practices taught in studios across the US is a structure that is made compatible with the economics of yoga studios, which are not particularly lucrative, but fit in to the "Group Fitness" model of aerobics, Zumba and the like.So this form of symbiotic arrangement where Yoga molds itself to the economic model of late capitalism is intriguing, but something essential is lost in this translation.Linda Sparrowe is one of the keepers of the authentic yoga in the West. With this book she rekindles the conversation about the heart of yoga which is the home practice. This is deeply meaningful of course to yoga teachers, who unfortunately are often too tired from teaching to kindle enough of a home practice. This is just the honest truth. But the stillness one can attain at home is unmatched, and the ability to truly practice again and again coming to one's own practice space is truly the heart of the most profound yoga available to anyone. This book will rekindle your yoga practice if you are a teacher or student. The practices you will learn and see in this book will ignite, inspire, enthuse and help rekindle the light of yoga in the west, and is again a brilliant contribution to the discourse of the evolution of modern yoga.
