The arc of cancer’s narrative is a long one. For some, the aftermath of cancer starts immediately upon being diagnosed. For others, it sneaks in, a shadow extending its reach. The book’s authors have many stories to tell—stitching broken and scarred bodies back together, reconstructing identities, denying and confronting and accepting death. This anthology reveals the realities of life, through and with cancer, as the authors learn how to survive and in the process, how to live. The stories beg the reader to step into the space that cancer has razed, to consider what is most beloved and cherished, and to ask what the sum of one’s life will be.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. this book of personal essays/insights by young women who have battled and are battling breast cancer gave me a very good idea as By Joyce Sanvi I have never had breast cancer, however, this book of personal essays/insights by young women who have battled and are battling breast cancer gave me a very good idea as to what it must be like to have it. The individual essays, are sad, poignant, humorous, sometimes laugh-out-loud funny yet so insightful. I never knew that reconstructed breasts have no sense of feeling. I never knew that one had to wear helmet shaped ice packs before, during and after chemotherapy in order not to lose one's hair. And, apparently, I never knew a lot of things about breast cancer and its effects on its victims and family members. I DO KNOW NOW!!! If you never read anything else, read this book. Bravo to the editors and contributors because you have produced a much needed book. You and countless others are so incredibly brave!!!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Deeply touching and eye-opening: must read By Maha Bali This book is deeply touching and a huge eye-opener.I received this book on Kindle as a gift from a friend of mine who had breast cancer, and blogged about it regularly. Even though I followed my friend's blog regularly and we are very close (from online), I realized while reading these chapters how diverse and multidimensional the experience of having breast cancer can be. It seems obvious that each woman would experience it as uniquely as her own self and circumstances, but it is difficult for someone who hasn't lived through it to see all the different dimensions and angles of it, and this book helped me see that. It also made me understand why breast cancer isn't just something you can have, treat, then move on.It feels like a book every woman should read, because even though it is about cancer, it is also very much about being a woman, and to be honest, aren't we all afraid we might go through this (or at least someone dear to us) every day? I can also imagine it benefiting people who care for others going through breast cancer.
