About the Author Stuart McMeans is a composer/lyricist whose comedy songs are frequently performed in the NYC cabaret scene and around the country, most recently by Broadway performers at 54 Below, Triad Theater, Joe’s Pub Songs of Spirit, and Songs by Stuart and Stuart at the Laurie Beechman. His new musical “Songs for a More Funnier World” had its world premiere at the 2013 New York Musical Theater Festival, winning awards in the category of Best Music and Best Ensemble. Other works include the award-winning “Bargains and Blood” at the NY International Fringe Festival, “Everyman for Himself” (Dixon Place, Actor’s Temple), “Hermitage: The Ghost Men of Harlem” (Plays and Players), “That’s How It Works” (Philadelphia Ethical Society). Stuart is an Advanced member of the Lehman Engel BMI Musical Theater Workshop, and is a Texas native who went to law school, hated it, and dropped out to become a starving artist. He aspires to starve less in the coming years.

Musical theater with humor, wit, and touching insight into today's world By Stephen Lowell I was fortunate to see Stuart McMeans's "Songs for a More Funnier World" twice this year in Chicago. It is brilliant (and was superbly performed by the wonderful cast). Repeated viewing only enhances one's enjoyment of this musical. McMeans's uniquely original music is beautiful and affecting - it ranges from a solo voice up to a vocal quartet blending together in interesting harmonies with an exciting instrumental accompaniment. The music displays a natural and perfect fit to the cadence of the lyrics. The lyrics themselves are alternately incredibly funny and very touching - and always entertaining. They are so apt to our modern world, illuminating issues both mundane and profound. Beneath the humor and wit lies a keen understanding of our culture today and of human nature in general. What better way to address human frailties and foibles - and strengths - than with humor and wit via the medium of musical theater!

By DaMour Da Merrier I saw this show live, and I STILL wake up with some of the songs stuck in my head! Cabaret songs that pack a punch. The lyrics are clever - and the music even more so. Most of the songs start out innocently enough, and then deliver the big punch for the chorus. For this reason, many of these songs would make excellent 32-bar cuts for comedic auditions. Two of my personal favorites: a song in which Romeo thinks back on his short memories with Juliet and, in perfect frat-boy fashion, deems them "Good Times"; a song in which a nosy co-worker has no boundaries talking about disturbing personal matters (going to a dark place), but then ends her thought process with a chipper "ANY-WHO!" (who even says ANYWHO anymore, amirite?!). These songs are new, fresh, and just a touch insulting; the perfect combination. HASHTAGblessed
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Perfect Cabaret Songs! By Stephen A. Lance I had the great pleasure of seeing the show in The New York Musical Theatre Festival a few years back. I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard in the theater. Each song/scene is rife with wit, charm and often times, are quite touching. McMeans has the ability to keep you in stitches and then throw and emotional punch. Stand-out songs: Barbie, Until He’s Mine, Fearless, If Life Could Imitate Art, Three Questions, and Don’t Come to New York.These songs are amazing addition to any cabaret performer’s library.
