I feel like the answers are finally there By Patrice Wehse I have been chronically ill for over 35 years, this is the first place where all the answers seem to be. I am so thankful for Dr. Jay Davidson and his wife Dr. Heather Davidson and all the staff at his medical office. When I read this and go to that office, I feel hope. I feel like the answers are finally there, the ones I was looking for, like Dr. Jay says in his book. I knew they were there, with God's help I found them through Dr. Jay and Dr. Nick and Dr.Heather. I was getting too exhausted to look any more, and now after a year of listening to them, my energy is starting to come back along with mind clarity. I would recommend this book to everybody as well as using them as your primary doctor. They know what they are talking about, I know, I've spent 35 years looking for the right doctors. Trust them, they are the real deal !!!!!!!

Dewey asserted that complete democracy was to be obtained not just by extending voting rights but also by ensuring that there exists a fully formed public opinion, accomplished by effective communication among citizens, experts, and politicians, with the latter being accountable for the policies they adopt.Dewey's The Child and the Curriculum contains an influential and remarkably clear account of how dualisms or false distinctions arise, how they can be taken up by different sects and so become the focus of opposing viewpoints, and how the dualism eventually can be dissolved and the dispute resolved; the account is illustrated by reference to the 2 schools of thought that oppose each other about the nature of the curriculum.

John Dewey's classic education theories are the foundation of much of today's school curriculums. I have a Masters of Education and I truly believe from actual classroom experience that the older methods are better. Back to basics would turn around the nation's failing school system. I recommend reading this for anyone who wants to learn essentials of teaching children so that they can understand and use what they are being taught.

However, the scan is a poor quality, resulting in words that are faded beyond the point of being legible and about 75% of the letters 'c' and 'e' are not distinguishable.

About the Author George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) is one of the world’s greatest literary figures. Born in Dublin, Ireland, he left school at fourteen and in 1876 went to London, where he began his literary career with a series of unsuccessful novels. In 1884 he became a founder of the Fabian Society, the famous British socialist organization. After becoming a reviewer and drama critic, he published a study of the Norwegian dramatist Henrik Ibsen in 1891 and became determined to create plays as he felt Ibsen did: to shake audiences out of their moral complacency and to attack social problems. However, Shaw was an irrepressible wit, and his plays are as entertaining as they are socially provocative. Basically shy, Shaw created a public persona for himself: G.B.S., a bearded eccentric, crusading social critic, antivivisectionist, language reformer, strict vegetarian, and renowned public speaker. The author of fifty-three plays, hundreds of essays, reviews, and letters, and several books, Shaw is best known for Widowers’ Houses (1892), Mrs. Warren’s Profession (1893), Arms and the Man (1894), Caesar and Cleopatra (1898), Man and Superman (1903), Major Barbara (1905), Pygmalion (1913), Heartbreak House (1919), and Saint Joan (1923). He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1925.

An early social comedy by Shaw on the horrors of war By Lawrance Bernabo George Bernard Shaw takes the title for this play from the opening life of Virgil's epic poem the "Aeneid," which begins "Of arms and the man I sing." Virgil glorified war and the heroic feats of Aeneas on the battlefield. However, Shaw's purpose in this play is to attack the romantic notion of war by presenting a more realistic depiction of war, devoid of the idea that such death and destruction speaks to nobility. Still, "Arms and the Man" is not an anti-war drama, but rather a satirical assault on those who would glorify the horrors or war.Shaw develops an ironic contrast between two central characters. The play begins with accounts of the glorious exploits of Major Sergius Saranoff, a handsome young Bulgarian officer, in a daring cavalry raid, which turned the war in favor of the Bulgarians over the Serbs. In contrast, Captain Bluntschil, a professional soldier from Switzerland, acts like a coward. He climbs up to a balcony to escape capture, he threatens a woman with a gun, and he carries chocolates rather than cartridges because he claims the sweets are more useful on the battlefield.In the eyes of Raina Petkoff, the young romantic idealist who has bought into the stories of battlefield heroism, Saranoff is her ideal hero. However, as the play proceeds, we learn more about this raid and that despite its success, it was a suicidal gesture that should have failed. Eventually Saranoff is going to end up dead if he continues to engage in such ridiculous heroics. Meanwhile, we realize that Bluntshcil has no misconceptions about the stupidity of war and that his actions have kept him alive."Arms and the Man" is an early play by Shaw, first performed in 1894, the same year he wrote "Mrs. Warren's Profession." The ending is rather tradition for comedies of the time, with all the confusion between the lovers finally getting cleared up and everybody paired up to live happily ever after. The choice of a young woman as the main character, who ultimately rejects her romantic ideals to live in the real world, is perhaps significant because serving in the army and going to war is not going to happen. Consequently, her views are not going to be colored by questions of courage in terms of going to war herself. I also find it interesting that this play understands the horrors of war given that it was the horrors of World War I that generally killed the romantic notion of war in Britain.

By A Customer This play particularly wins you over if you see it performed live with a particularly acerbic, not too tall Bluntschli--it is a romantic farce that critiques Romanticism (but ends up in love with it, although in a roundabout way) and embraces early 20th c Realism and Capitalism, all through some fairly simple but very captivating characters. Good social sendup, a Shaw for people who still have soft hearts and want a quick read.

Like the chocolate cream soldier - tasty and satisfying By Bonnie A starving, exhausted soldier running for his life bursts into a young woman's room, finds outrage, criticism, solace, chocolate creams, and unexpected love -and that's just the opening scene. This clever, witty, subtle, and surprising treat from the author of Pygmalion still holds up well more than 100 years after its writing. Shaw fashions the subjects of false ideals, heroism, romanticism, and the fake glories of war into a well-constructed farce which sustains through the very last line. Can't wait to see a new production of the play, and a great read meanwhile....

Já na terceira e última parte, o Major busca através de sua participação na revolta transformar o país. Acontece que desde o título do livro já está anunciado que o desfecho não será feliz. O brasileiro Policarpo, que tanto acreditava em mudanças e melhoras, que tanto valorizava o que de mais brasileiro havia, acaba sendo acusado de traidor, e morre na prisão. Ele, antes de sua morte, chega a conclusão que toda a sua vida, sua luta e todos seus sonhos foram em vão. A pátria brasileira, pela qual ele tanto sonhou e lutou, não existia.

By Gypsy Samuels This is clearly written in an enjoyable fashion that is necessary to help demystify the mythology that Freud spent his whole life creating. If you live in 1897 or 1927 you might believe that Freudville is a great place to live. If you don't think that addictive minds are self driven for their own glorification then Freudville is a the place for you and your children. Especially, the little girls who can be told that they are second rate human beings because they do not have a penis. And, of course, that this "...impressive unscientific mythology..." (Harris, p.75, Waking Up) is of true value along with Blavatsky who believed and promoted in 1875 that she was in contact with the "Great White Brotherhood." She was in psychic contact with the members of this brotherhood of course. Just as Freud was in psychic contact with the "unconscious" minds of his patients and could somehow interpreted their dreams. This was right before they gave him the money they owed him of course. Dream on and make sure you check out the Scientology website. Oh yes, and you might want to read William James' comments on the unconscious that were written 25 years before Freud's book on the unconscious. Fifteen arguments against the existence of an unconscious. Strangely enough, Freud use the flip side of these arguments in his "monumental contribution" to the world of psychology. But, yes, of course Freud "discovered" the unconscious--right?

AN ENTERTAINING INTRODUCTION TO CRITICAL VIEWS OF FREUD By Steven H Propp If you're not familiar with them, the "Introducing..." series combines serious text with abundant illustrations (like a graphic novel), photos, etc. They're almost invariably an engaging way to first delve into a particular topic, thinker, or writer. The text author, Stephen Wilson, is a consultant psychotherapist and Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. This book was published in both the UK and the US in 2002.He notes about Freud's book Beyond the Pleasure Principle, "[it] is a fascinating book, ingeneously argued, but in which Freud admits his uncertainty... [Freud wrote] 'If I am asked, "Am I myself convinced of the truth of these hypotheses?" I would answer that I am not and do not seek to persuade others to believe in them.'" (Pg. 39)He observes, "Freud pioneered a revolutionary new interpretative method of FREE ASSOCIATION... [which] means that I 'let go' of my normal self-critical reflection and follow thoughts wherever they might lead. This provides the analyst with observational data from which unconscious desires could be inferred. But if I say 'whatever comes into my mind,' can this prove that what emerges is in fact organized by some unconscious principle?... Or is it imposed by some other 'observing agency'? This is a real problem for Freudianism." (Pg. 63)He points out, "In today's post-Freudian world, it is difficult to gauge the 'moral shock' and 'extreme disgust' first produced by Freud's exposition of the Oedipus complex. Modern opponents of psychoanalysis are more likely to entrench themselves in the paradoxical claim that the Oedipal theory is both UNTESTABLE and DEMONSTRABLY UNTRUE. Let us take a closer look at the case against the Oedipus complex as presented by Frederick Crews [The Memory Wars]... Crews tells us that well-designed experimental studies have not produced a shred of evidence to substantiate it." (Pg. 140)He states that "Melanie Klein, who together with Anna Freud pioneered child-psychoanalysis, managed to cap Freud's theory of penis-envy, by postulating an earlier and more profound form of envy from which it derived---breast envy! In doing so she rescued psychoanalysis from its anti-feminist bias. [Klein wrote] 'Yes... penis-envy and the castration complex play an important part in the girl's development... But they derive from an earlier envy, shared by both sexes, of the mother's inexhaustible breast. Only later is this transferred onto the paternal organ.'" (Pg. 165)Those who wish to dig deeper into the subject can start with the "Further Reading" section Wilson includes at the book's end. But this book is a very helpful "overview" for beginners.

I got this book and the one on Jung together, it is amazing how much we have travelled in such a short period of time in psychiatric care, and how much these two have influenced even our current thought process. Its easy to see now ( at least for me)-- how Aristotles' thoughts held sway for a thousand years before anyone even questioned them.

Even if you don't currently use essential oils, you will understand why you should after this one. It's packed full of valuable information. I read it front to back in a couple of days and I still refer to it at least twice a week. I love that that author explains the science behind essential oils in a way that is easy to understand.

She writes with directness and a touch of humor. There is so much info crammed into this little book. I read it on the bus ride to work and found myself fully engrossed and learned so much. This book does not focus on any one oil brand but does make you think. There were many questions that were brought to mind and got me really thinking. This is a definite must if you are looking into the idea of using essential oils from any company. This book encourages you to ask questions and to always be safe.

That said, I don't regret buying it and I'm glad I read it. The best of this book is in the beginning where the "researcher/author" explains what exactly essential oils are and how they work on the body. I believe this knowledge is absolutely vital to anyone who wants to use essential oils. Understand how powerful these oils are and how they get into your bloodstream before you start using them! She also does a very good job explaining how less than reputable companies can easily make false or misleading claims on therapeutic grade oils and tells you exactly what to look for to make sure you are using an oil that is safe. I also appreciated other "chapters" (or what the author calls "lessons") in the middle of the book that explained how and why essential oils work on various systems in our bodies. For that first 2/3 of the book I would purchase and read again.Ok....so all that said, the down side of this book for me was that the author, in my opinion, goes far far overboard with the concern of using perfectly organic and perfectly pure oils. It is repeated very often throughout the entire book and the last 1/3 or so of the book is dedicated to delving in even deeper to what she stresses throughout the book. Yes, I agree with her up to a certain extent, but believe me when I say she goes to a major extreme.I would go so far as to say that this author is a "purist" in the purest sense of the word!! 99.99% on any step of the process of making her EO will simply not be acceptable. She wants you to investigate your essential oil company and all of their sources to the extent of knowing that their soil has been organic for 50+ years, their seed is pure, their growing standards are stellar, their harvesting practices are absolutely perfect down to the perfect time and method. (Which all is going to be completely different for each and every plant & tree.) And that's just for the growing part....then there are many levels of the distilling process that you are supposed to investigate to make sure all that is absolutely perfectly done. Then on to the distributors and making sure they are doing proper testing and obviously not adding anything to the oils....and on and on it goes.The author goes so far as to say that you should plan trips or family vacations to go visit the farms your EO company gets their product from!!! I found this a very odd thing. No reputable company just has a supplier in one place that "grows" all the product their oils are distilled from. These plants/trees come from indigenous places all over the world. Most Lavender is grown in France, Frankincense in the Middle East.....Tea Tree in Australia. .....and so on and so on. I guess you could try to find some local suppliers to check out how the lemon or thyme is grown for your EO. But you get the point, it's not just one place. So you could go check out a farm that grows the thyme for your EO, but that's not going to tell you much about all the other types of oils you buy from your seller. I guess it could be a warning sign if you find your seller uses one less than reputable farm, than it could call into question all the others. Most of us would never and could never, and wouldn't even want go to these types of extremes to verify the purity of the product we are using.I took off an additional star because after the author/researcher go so soooo far to stress how important it is to make sure that every single step of your EO process is 100% perfect and pure, she absolutely ignores one very glaringly important topic. Not one word in the entire book is devoted to expiration of your oils. This is actually an important topic for me that I've been trying to learn more on and was shocked that someone this thorough with their research completely ignored it.In the end I'm actually surprised that anyone can meet her standards, and she does not share which seller she purchases her oils from. The other thing I have to admit that slightly bothers me is that this author has no certifications in the aromatherapy field or any other in alternative medicine. She is not a nurse, not an herbalist. She is a "researcher" and uses EO's for herself and her family. That said, I appreciate and benefited from her research, but in the end it is just that....research. She has never been trained in any part of the healthcare or alternative medicine fields.Again, I enjoyed the book and felt I learned a lot. I have no reason not to believe or trust the authors research and will take to heart most of what she had to teach. That said, if I had to go to the lengths she describes to try to verify the absolute purity from seed to oil of my EO's......I would be absolutely paralyzed from the get go and would never make it to actually purchasing and using EO's.

Several I've never seen before as a local historian of movie houses surrounding Woodbridge Township, NJ. Around 280 pages detailing every minutia of the early days of film theaters, histories and local celebrities up until the 1970's. It's a easy, entertaining and quite interesting read. Money well spent looking forward to reading and rereading it again.

A Fine Portrait of a Neighborhood Movie House By Eric Schultz This book is both a well-researched history and an affectionate portrait of The State Theater, which operated in the town of Woodbridge, NJ, from 1927 to 1969. The author gives us a good look at how millions of people got their entertainment before television and the era of a multiplex theaters. The book tells the story of this and of other small movie theaters which operated in the same area during that time. We see how the theater got started, offerring live entertainment and movies, and it takes us through the years of the transition to sound film, the Great Depression and the time of WWII. This theater was a part of the community, renting out space for offices and small businesses, and participated in local events, such as scrap metal drives for the war effort. We see how the State Theater had to deal with the coming of television and also the development of drive-ins and the big multiplex theatres, which ultimately drove most small neighborhood theaters like the State out of business. The old type of small movie houses, made in the middle of business districts in the 1920s, with limited parking, had a tough time in competing with the new multiplexes, which were built with large parking lots. Also, the multiplexes gave audiences a number of different movies to choose from, bringing in more and more people, while the small neighborhood houses could only afford to show one or two movies in the same week.I.J. Hyatt gives us a narrative which takes us through these decades from the Roaring '20s to the end of the '60s. We see the many changes of the theater's management and programming style, and the author takes us into the projection booth and other aspects of the business. We get to "meet" individuals who worked at the theater, and we see the lists of movies and live shows, plus the many ways that these were advertized locally. The author also gives us some of his own memories of the place, and so the book is more personal than simply a work of research. I enjoyed reading the book, and found it quite interesting.

About the Author Tirso de Molina (Madrid, 1583-Almazan, Soria, 1648). Espana. Se dice que era hijo bastardo del duque de Osuna, pero otros lo niegan. Se sabe poco de su vida hasta su ingreso como novicio en la Orden mercedaria, en 1600, y su profesion al ano siguiente en Guadalajara. Parece que habia escrito comedias y por entonces viajo por Galicia y Portugal. En 1614 sufrio su primer destierro de la corte por sus satiras contra la nobleza. Dos anos mas tarde fue enviado a la Hispaniola (actual Republica Dominicana) y regreso en 1618. Su vocacion artistica y su actitud contraria a los cenaculos culteranos no facilito sus relaciones con las autoridades. En 1625, el Concejo de Castilla lo amonesto por escribir comedias y le prohibio volver a hacerlo bajo amenaza de excomunion. Desde entonces solo escribio tres nuevas piezas y consagro el resto de su vida a las tareas de la orden.
