I felt like I was at the battle field while the war was raging. What brave men to have endured the perils of war. We have not had enough respect for our soldiers and veterans in America. I appreciate my freedom and thank Shannon for sharing such a personal story about his father and his "brothers" as they have continued to reflect on their experiences.

Ms. Garland has the unique ability to have her readers in tears one minute and laughing the next, this is a talent very few writers possess. She confronts a very difficult subject indeed, yet this author finds humor in the most difficult of situations, mourning a loss of a loved one. With her unique style, sense of humor and amazing southern stories, I can't wait for her next book! I highly recommend this author, Sherry Ann Garland!

About the Author Hugh Whitemore began his career in British television, writing many original plays and dramatizations. He has also written for American TV, including a four-hour film about the Alger Hiss case, Concealed Enemies, which won an Emmy Award for the best mini-series. His most recent work, The Gathering Storm, won the 2002 Emmy Award for outstanding writing, two Golden Globes, and the Writers Guild of American Award.Andrew Hodges is a Senior Research Fellow in the Mathematical Institute at the University of Oxford, and a Tutor in Mathematics at Wadham College, Oxford. His main research interest is in the mathematics of fundamental physics, but he is perhaps best known as the author of Alan Turing: The Enigma (1983). This book has been dramatised for stage and television, and most recently inspired the highly successful film The Imitation Game (2014).

McInnis This drama revels a man who was not, in many ways, a regular guy.Math Genius, Alan Mathison Turing was able to break the Nazi Enigma Code for the British government. Mr. Turing saw no need to live a lie. Against his Supervisor's & his Mother's advice, Alan accepts in himself what society will not. This story is sprinkled with early computer development. "Breaking the Code" is a view in the difficulties of a gay man in the mid-twentith century England. When Alan incurs a home robbery, the police did not seek the thief. Law enforcement incarcerated Turing for being a homosexual, leaving the theft unsolved.Facts related, but not in this play:1. On 10 September 2009, Alan M. Turing was one of five people ever to receive an apology from the UK Government for the injustice received under British Law.2. Since 1986 the annual "A. M. Turing Award" is given by Stanford University. The Turing Award is computer science 'Noble' equivalent.3. March 2012, Historian George Dyson's newest book, "Turing's Cathedral" is set to be released.

On the stage it is an effective vehicle for sharp characterization and gripping story development. Most readers and playgoers, however, already know the final outcome, so suspense is not usually a virtue of ``Breaking the Code.''

Seeing things clearly, in retrospect By Grady Harp Though Renae Farley, a successful interior designer, has not written before, the quality of communication in this her first book suggests that she may seek to explore other topics to share with the reading public. Her writing is conversational in manner, warmly credible, accurate, and insightful and is bound to benefit others who are dealing with the presence of a family member or close friend with Alzheimer’s disease.Farley’s book surveys the six-year battle with early onset Alzheimer's disease that her older sister Diane faced starting at the age of 49. Though Alzheimer’s disease is frighteningly prevalent in older people in this country the early onset form is becoming more noticed. Hopefully with this memoir more people will become aware of the early signs, seek able assistance form physicians who actually understand this variable, and learn the steps from initial subtle manifestations to the final stages of this poorly understood plague. Renae Farley takes us through these steps, sharing the subtleties of the early form as observed in her beloved sister, the struggles with the medical profession, the subsequent finding of suitable shelter for Diane as the disease advanced, and all the other associated heartbreaking tasks that caretakers must assume.To quote from this book (and it is well worth sharing): ‘People who may be in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease can experience one or more of these symptoms n different degrees – Memory loss that disrupt daily living, Challenges in planning or problem solving, Difficulty completing usual tasks at home or work, Confusion with time, seasons or place, Trouble understanding visual images (colors and shapes) and spatial relationships (distances), New problems using words in speaking and writing, Misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps, Decreased or poor judgment, Withdrawal from work or social activities, Changes in mood or personality (ref: Alz.org).Renae Farley combs through the peripheral paraphernalia that accompanies this disease and instead offers a closely observed memoir of how this disease affects loved ones as well as the victim. This book reinforced a mentoring process that I created and have been using. Reading this book helped me to realize exactly WHAT I was doing and WHY it made sense. When things seem to come naturally to us, we become even better when we understand the philosophy behind what we are doing. This book reinforced many of my practices and now I understand why I have been successful. What I do when I practice group mentoring is not just due to possessing a natural talent for it -- what I do is rooted in good theory based on what I read in this book.

Clearance statistics are no longer recorded Gavin Benny was able to use his high clearance ratio to further promotions including his own residence separate from that given by the constabulary. The clearance rate for New Zealand was 60-65 percent, the top clearance rate for Northland particularly burglaries and domestic violence was 50. The conventional constabulary has changed from the community to more solving crimes using technology - computers. The equipment has changed using Tasers and Pepper Spray, policing using cellphones enables better control for apprehending the offender. DNA has replaced finger printing. Situations of social provocation sale of liqueur operated by new immigrants. Policing has increased for parking tickets. Tourist targeted as victims from some local bad behaviour on isolated walking tracks. Advances from landlords toward female tenants for unpaid rent. Unlicensed, unwarranted cars and underage driving a problem. Dogs without registration. Cattle rustling - freezing works not supposed to kill cattle unless they have an ear tag so they can not be shot as trespassing. TB control on deer released in Northland unless they have a departure clearance. Drug raids using helicopters spotters beside the pilot with two spraying the crop. Drugs are more grown inside these days including the use of meth manufacturing.Police are paid for a 40 hour week but are on duty 24/7, time off from overtime. Solving minor theft helps lower the burglaries. 'Nosey Parker' informants there is an "informant fund" but is subject to corruption. Crime 30 years ago was less violent particularly domestic violence was not an issue now victim support is a real help for community mending.Personnel not receiving credit for solving crime is a lack of incentive for policing.Mitylene Kuc

The interesting story of the author' s great uncle is the same-very interesting, but excessive detail and no table of contents. The sad story of Mali, reviewed in an appendix, is the story of African peoples' struggles sixty years ago for independence from European nations, followed by their current struggles to swim the Mediterranean and line up at the Calais tunnel trying to get back under their rule.

Gave 3 stars because does not provide access to any power point notes which would be great for quick reviews of the lengthy chapters. As much as book cost there should be access to pp slides b/c information is a bit overwhelming for CT students trying to pass the registry. But good info, would use as a reference book for registry not as a direct study tool.

I would consider it unlikely that I would appreciate a play rapidly assembled by three playwrights on the recent execution of a notorious old woman condemned for practicing witchcraft. Surprisingly, I did enjoy such a play.Admittedly, a few centuries have elapsed since Thomas Dekker and John Ford and William Rowley collaborated on The Witch of Edmonton. The Mother Sawyer subplot is apparently faithful to the actual event; Sawyer was hanged on April 19, 1621. Within days the chaplain of Newgate Gaol published a pamphlet titled The Wonderful Discoverie of Elizabeth Sawyer a Witch, late of Edmonton, her Conviction and Condemnation and Death. This document served as the primary source for Dekker, Ford, and Rowley. The first known performance was December 29, 1621 at the Court of King James, but earlier public performances are likely to have occurred.Many books, plays, (and now screenplays) on topical events are quickly forgotten. Fortunately, after several centuries of neglect, The Witch of Edmonton was republished in the late 1800s, most importantly in the influential Mermaid Series. More recently several major production companies, including the Royal Shakespeare Company, have staged The Witch of Edmonton.The short prologue to this play ends with the sentence: 'Here is mirth and matter.' However, most readers will agree that The Witch of Edmonton has only a few elements of comedy and that matter clearly overwhelms mirth.The plot involves two intertwined themes, both stories of betrayal and deceit and misplaced loyalty: 1) To gain a dowry, the young Frank Thorney deceives all that trust him, commits bigamy, and even murder. 'Tis done, and I am in. Once past our height, we scorn the deepest abyss' 2) Living in isolation, feared and abused by her neighbors, Mother Sawyer pleads for help. 'Would some power, good or bad, instruct me which way I might be revenged.' The devil in the guise of a dog obliges Mother Sawyer in return for her soul.The Witch of Edmonton is interesting, entertaining drama. The characters do not have the psychological depth found in Shakespeare's tragedies, but this play warrants reading by anyone that enjoys Elizabethan and Jacobean drama.I highly recommend the Methuen Student Edition. The extensive commentary, plot analysis, and character reviews are excellent.

By Peter B Mandatory book for college, not sure what to say it was cheapest on Amazon compared to many college book stores. Read it once, will never read it again in my life because its not favorite topic. My Professors lectures are way better then this book.
