Here's what the editor has to say: Nick is funny, sure. But more importantly, his self-awareness, irrepressible sensitivity, and identifiable style (for better or worse depending on the page number) make the author able to cull laughs and coax smiles from all stops on the emotional spectrum. Throughout More Stories, and Additional Stories, I found myself applying my own emotions, memories, and momentary triumphs. Within each chapter, I discovered escapes to seldom-visited crevices of the "Imagine if?" I've been aware of the now-two-time author since I saw his cartoon in that college newspaper all those years ago, but I truly got to know him during the editing process of this book. So allow me to formally introduce you to Nick Olig.

KAFKA IN CHINA, The People’s Republic of Corruption is the true story of the author's survival of attempted murder, torture, black jails, and fraudulent incarceration in a Shanghai mental hospital committed against the author as the result of a blurt-out to him about a large bribe allegedly paid by an iconic American company to Chinese officials. The fraudulent incarceration was accomplished with purported letters from the US Consulate General in Shanghai. The Pulitzer Prize winning reporter Joel Brinkley reported this case in depth in Politico and the San Francisco Chronicle in 2012.

The author is telling the complete story in the belief that Americans can best learn from an American what it means to be caught up in the Chinese Communist kleptocracy and thereby understand the plight of ordinary Chinese who are routinely brutalized by that regime, and further that it is unrealistic to think that China has adopted or to hope that it ever will adopt anything approximating Rule of Law under this regime.

This story also raises the following serious questions: why has the State Department refused to answer whether the purported US Consulate General letters are genuine or forgeries; whether the State Department was complicit in what happened to the author; whether the State Department covered up any involvement; whether certain US media companies refused to cover this story in order to protect their own interests.

About the Author Warren Henry Rothman holds three degrees from Yale University, B.A. (1965), LL.B. (1970), and M.A. (1970). He is fluent in written Chinese and spoken Mandarin. As a Freshman at Yale College he began his study of Chinese history which became his principal academic pursuit. In 1980, just after China opened to foreign trade and investment, he was recruited to work for a major multinational to manage projects in China and throughout Asia and Eastern Europe. Since the 1990s, Rothman has focused nearly all his attention as a lawyer and management consultant on China for industrial, media, and Internet projects. In 2000, he moved to Beijing to work full time for an elite law firm. He abruptly left China in 2008 after the experience described in this book. Rothman, a tenor, has sung opera professionally and is currently working on recordings to be released in 2016.

The tone of mainstream western comment is that, though China has a flawed political system, things are getting better and that in any case the Chinese economy is too important globally for us to question Chinese motives too critically.This disturbing book is the true story of the ordeal of a Mandarin speaking, US lawyer - based for many years in Beijing and Shanghai. Working on a business deal, Rothman uncovers corruption and blocks it. Soon he finds that previously reliable and helpful Chinese, like his housekeeper, are conspiring against him. They plan to wreck his health or drive him out of his mind. They come close to success, in no small part because of the incompetence or collusion of American officialdom. But through stubborn determination, Rothman lives to leave China and tell his story.The book reads like a novel but is documented and presented like a legal brief. A must read for anyone who wants to understand the real and ugly truth about today's China.

This Yale-educated lawyer worked and lived in China for years,mastering the language and negotiating a happy life in an ancient exotic country. But despite surface calm and exciting experiences, the undercurrent of corruption and sinister plots were not far enough away. This is the first of a trilogy planned by Rothman, and after the terror of his opening chapter, he spends the rest of the book detailing his life and the insidious appearance of evil forces. The book is an easy interesting read, despite where it is heading. It portrays a country emerging into a modern world without losing its stranglehold on the players.

I can't count the number of times I wished I could tell the world about the stupid stuff people say (publicly shaming the particularly ignorant ones) instead of just laughing about it with my coworkers. I read this book and I cracked up when I saw stories like the ones I had experienced. I was so happy that it wasn't just me ha ha. The best part is that I can read this book a few short stories at a time and then put it down. Although I do love a story where I become completely absorbed into the story this was a nice break and the perfect coffee table book I recommend that anyone in the industry grab a copy and chuckle at the stories inside when you realize you've gone through the same thing. Even if you aren't in the service industry get a copy for yourself and just be thankful that you aren't the people in the stories!

Joy loves you :) By joy hooks Love to laugh and love your concept on your book :) I just wrote my first children's book and Simon and Schuster published it and now am doing book signings and selling at craft shows and farmer's markets and never worked so hard, but am meeting great people all along the way, challenging but have started my second and we'll see where she goes, but love your concept and will be following you :)

Got me prepared and pumping By Brittney Hidvegi Aside from short stories, I’ve written a couple of screenplays for my own hobby and leisure and have been hoping to get it noticed for quite some time. A few friends have submitted their works and only one or two got paid in exchange for them. I wanted a hook. This guide has been a really good read because it has prepped me and given me the facts and smart steps I need to take before taking full action.I enjoyed the flow and instructional writing style of Jason Buff. He seems like he’s got a lot of experience in this area. The guidelines were very well put from crafting a screenplay’s first pages, marketing the play, exploring what producers are looking for, learning to pitch, selling to audiences, marketing yourself, coming up with a killer ending, and so on. I learned a lot of tips in this book. I’ve even worked on a few loglines that are sounding pretty good. I had a particularly rough time in the genre aspect because I enjoyed writing a plot with plenty of comedy. However, I realized, after some of the book’s advice, that the best screenplays may come from horror and action combined. So I’ve been working on this aspect lately, and it’s improving my versatility. It’s about all those multiple ideas and cutting them down to the finest chunks, chunks of the tender meat.Another thing, acknowledging criticism, is something I’m going to work on because I have a tendency to get discouraged. Instead, I ask myself questions on whether or not the audience would love or hate this scene of the story, etc. I’m even considering producing my own film after reading this book. Seriously! If I follow all the guidelines and land a good deal, I’ve already selected the best location for filming, which is good, the setting is perfect. And be resourceful as the advice goes.I recommend this book to every hopeful screenplay writer out there, definitely worth a read!

It is a very efficient and a good structured guide full of useful information and ingenious tricks. It explains in detail what to consider before writing a screenplay, how to develop a strategy, what to consider about titles, story structures and important structure norms, how to show that you a serious screenwriter, how to deal with criticism and much more. The book is an easy read and understand, well structured, and a great guide for screenwriters to understand what producers are looking for.

"My reply gives my excuse for my intrusion. Without designing to criticise the methods of other writers, I would yet call attention to the fact that many have given us works which are largely compilations. These authors have seemed loath to leave anything unsaid which is pertinent to their subjects. In their efforts to be fully comprehensive they have quoted freely from others, giving pros and cons by men of equal authority, till the student who is a beginner is bewildered in his effort to choose. To avoid this, I decided to describe in my book only such methods as I have myself tested, believing that the student will be more benefited by adopting a single successful mode of practice than by essaying the various methods of many men.This has involved a two-fold result. First, and most important, the teaching becomes dogmatic.The charge has been freely made that "writers are not skillful dentists." This is because theory and practice are so often at variance. I have endeavored to write a work which would be as practical as words could make it. There is not a case described that has not occurred in my practice. There is not a method advocated that I have not tested.The second result is that I do not give detailed directions for carrying out methods which I have not attempted. This of course makes the book incomplete from that standpoint; but I prefer this to being quoted as authority for that which I have not myself tested, as too many have been already. As an example of such omission, it will be observed that I do not describe methods of using non-cohesive gold foil. Black. I doubt that most dentists have ever had the chance to read this clinical textbook. Not only was Dr. Ottolengui a well respected dentist of his time, but he was also a writer of popular mystery novels as well as a worldwide expert on moths. Any dentist as well as historian of the dental literature who is interested in the practice of clinical dentistry in the mid to late 1800's should read this erudite text for an insight into the practice of dentistry of that era.

By Ian Prior Let me say at the top that I loved “A Doctor and a Plumber in a Rowboat” and wholeheartedly recommend it not only for anyone new to improvisation but also for the experienced improviser who already speaks “yes, and” as a second language.As a longtime improviser myself, I took classes in the early '80s with members of the renowned improv troupe Chicago City Limits, and later taught improv and ran an improv show in NYC. I also read every seminal guide on the topic including Viola Spolin's "Improvisation for the Theater" and Keith Johnstone’s “Impro.”To my mind, “A Doctor and a Plumber” equals and may even surpass them all.Schindler and Soter, who between them can boast over six decades of improv experience, are informative, covering all the bases from the importance of justification to ways to juice up your spontaneity. But they’re also constantly entertaining and at times refreshingly snarky. They even manage to crystalize in a coherent way some of the more esoteric, even Zen-like notions long-time improv addicts inevitably encounter.In short, “A Doctor and a Plumber” made me want to improvise every day. It also made me want to be a better improviser (to paraphrase a famous movie line). And I don’t think you can ask for anything more from an improv guide.(Full disclosure: Over the years I’ve studied or performed with both authors and am mentioned in the book.)

By Dain Dunston I always thought the reason to have improve training at a corporate event was to help managers lighten up and use humor at work. But when I read this, I realized that improv is the perfect model for building a culture of innovation and action. If want to learn how to get your team working together and pushing projects forward, put the lessons of this book in action.

And, at the same time, it's a fun read.AND it has pictures!What more could you ask for?Plus, at the bottom of the book's last page, it says "Made in the USA". Shouldn't someone tell Donald Trump about this?
