2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The Semester Went By Much Too Fast By Chris Davis This is an amazingly candid account of a boy's first semester in college. The protagonist drinks, smokes, and avoids going to class as often as he can but believe me, he is completely honest; sometimes brutally so. That includes his observations about himself as well as others. One thing is certain- I laughed out loud many times while on the journey with him. I enjoyed this book so much I was reluctant to finally finish it. I will be looking forward to the author's next work.

But knowing the way the world works, you know most kids will discover this stuff anyway, so you might as well have some brash, in your face, brutally honest, real accounting of what goes down those first few months at the frat house. The cover hints at what's to come, and you can't be timid about vivid sexual descriptions and the abundant use of graphic words. Enjoy it for what it is, and pray your kids don't find out about it until after graduation.

Carroll College was a couple of decades ago for me And I've wondered if the experience had changed - especially since my kids are about to go. Well, it has and it hasn't. A fun to read, profane at times yet well crafted tale of life in college. Sometimes you'll wander off in a story only to find it reconnect at the end. Sometimes you'll laugh your head off. And, if you're like me, sometimes you will identify with the author. It's a good read that you can pick up anytime.

About the Author Sonja Warfield is a comedy writer who began her career writing for the Emmy-Award winning sitcom Will & Grace. From there she went on to write for the ABC comedy Jake in Progress and the hit BET series The Game, where she was executive story editor. Ms. Warfield has had development deals with Sony Pictures Television that led to her writing pilots for NBC and ABC. Additionally, she has written two pilots for HBO. Ms. Warfield also writes feature films and has written an adaption of a novel into a screenplay for Alcon Entertainment and 2S, a Hilary Swank production company. Currently, she serves as an adjunct professor at The University Of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts where she earned her B.A. in Cinema-Television Critical Studies.

This book is an equal mix of humorous anecdotes and sage advice for women of all ages and experiences. It not only had me laughing until tears rolled down my cheeks as I thought back to my comical college "dating" days, but it reminded me of the woman I have become because of those experiences. I would recommend this read to any woman (of any cultural background), especially women who don't mind hearing the truth. Get the book, but try not to read it in one sitting (even though you will be tempted). Savor the chapters and appreciate the author's artful and conversational writing style. Most importantly, see yourself in the stories. You will laugh. Enjoy!

And that's what Sonja Warfield delivers in this book. Funny, but painfully honest, she's the girlfriend who's gutsy enough to tell you like it is and how you need to be --even when you just want to drop to the lowest common denominator. The title might get your attention, but the content will feed your soul. Positive, uplighting messages from a sister who's been to hell and back and is loving enough to share her message: the pain will end and you will thrive again. This was a fast yet deeply satisfying read.

A lot of ink has been spilled covering the lives of history's most influential figures, but how much of the forest is lost for the trees? Walter Matthau is probably best-remembered for his films with Jack Lemmon, but he was clearly an established actor in Hollywood by the time they appeared in their first film together. Before his movies with Lemmon, Matthau most often played shady criminals in dramatic films, and his character in Elia Kazan's A Face in the Crowd (1957) offers one of the best examples. Matthau's major breakthrough did not occur until 1965, when he starred in the stage production of The Odd Couple, which was later adapted into the film that might be the duo's best known movie together.

In several of their movies, viewers witness all of the core elements of the Lemmon-Matthau dynamic. Lemmon plays the straight man to Matthau's shadier, conniving character, and a sharp contrast exists between the two.

By ROBERT MONCRIEFF A wonderful collection of puzzles thoughtfully selected and well presented. The hints and solutions parts are particularly well compiled, allowing for the more difficult puzzles to be revealed. This selection, reminiscent in style of Martin Gardner, nonetheless brings together old and new puzzles in a very straightforward and accessible fashion. For some puzzles, notably for me the "Monty Hall Problem", the analysis is beautifully phrased, offering several different ways to look at a famously confusing issue. There were some new treats here too; it is an inspired compendium that includes pure arithmetic, math, word problems and physics problems. An absolute please to dip into, as well as immerse oneself.

The book gets you thinking not only about the brain teasers themselves, but also about systematic ways to solve problems. I found a number of new (to me) puzzles and enjoyed going through each, patting myself on the back for the ones I solved and marveling at the solutions for the ones I didn't, with more than one "Ah Ha!" moment from the hints. Well written and thoroughly enjoyable.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Large, easy to read, good format By Prospero Tempest This book is as big as a spiral notebook, and the print is large enough to be easily read. It is left-justified and leaves almost a third of the page on the large right margin for making notes. The only thing that I could complain about is that the speaker's names are abbreviated to only three or four letters (Ex; Ham. Pol) Which is at times mildly confusing and I wonder why they didn't just print the full name. Stage directions are clearly marked in [brackets] so as not to be confused with dialog. I am very pleased with the job the printers did with this book.

The greatest take-away for me was how they explained the importance of conversations between two people. It's made me re-evaluate how and what I'm saying to my peers - both personally and professionally. This book is a great tool at any point in one's career, whether it's for the budding leader in a start-up or long-time executive at an established corporation. It's also the perfect size to take on the plane, subway ride to work or leisurely lunch on a nice day.

Several of the concepts and skills that Al and Leanne discuss I see every day from several senior managers within my company and it's allowed me to recognise what skill sets are required to progress as a leader. The author writes of manyinteresting and unusual people and events as an Australian soldier inWW 2 intercepting Japanese radio. It's quite inspiring and lots of adventure through history.

“Philosophy has been a powerful instrument in the legal armory and the times are ripe for restoring it to its old place therein. At least one may show what philosophy has done for some of the chief problems of the science of law, what stands before us to be done in some of the more conspicuous problems of that science today in which philosophy may help us, and how it is possible to look at those problems philosophically without treating them in terms of the eighteenth-century natural law or the nineteenth-century metaphysical jurisprudence which stand for philosophy in the general understanding of lawyers.”

Roscoe Pound was distinguished as one of the most prominent legal scholars in the development of American jurisprudence. In An Introduction to the Philosophy of Law, he describes how philosophy has been a paramount conceptual instrument throughout the history of law. Pound examines what philosophy has done for addressing some of the major challenges of the science of law and how it is possible to look at those problems philosophically without treating them in terms of a particular time period. The function of legal philosophy, writes Pound, is to rationally formulate a general theory of law which conforms to the interests, the general security first and foremost, of society.

According to Pound, philosophies of law historically have rationally adjusted legal developments to the circumstantial needs of society. Pound concerned himself primarily with the practical effects of American legal developments within the context of social interests and general security. He encouraged American jurists to abandon efforts to conform obsolete models of legal philosophy to new realities. The significance of Pound’s scholarship, particularly An Introduction to the Philosophy of Law, is the legal relativism inherent therein and its ongoing impact not merely on American jurisprudence, but on the imperative that American public policy be tested in the juridical crucible of relativism.

He authored numerous books, including The Spirit of the Common Law, Law and Morals, and Criminal Justice in America.

19 of 19 people found the following review helpful. A must-have for anyone studying the law By Jo-Be-Se I'm a college student with a legal studies concentration. I've taken 8 courses on our legal system so far, most of which concentrate on the judicial system. In two chapters this book covers more than any textbook I've been assigned for my courses. Pound's discussions on the application of law are worthwhile in and of themselves. This is clearly the definitive classic text on american jurisprudence, most of which is still relevant despite its age.That said, there is a downside to the book. It takes hours to read certain pages. In a few sentences Pound manages to convey the same information other authors do in pages. This is not hyperbole. I'm currently taking Judicial Process and Business Law. The combined texts for those classes border on 750 pages. This one book discusses all of the same topics, in much more precise and clear language, in 168 pages. If you want to learn why the law is the way it is, this is the one book you must buy.

By Kitty Smith I'd read that playing Sudoku can keep your brain healthy and help reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease and dementia as we get older, but the real reason I like to play is they're a lot of fun. They're also good for getting rid of that irritating song that's been stuck in your head for three days.This collection of Sudoku puzzles had me oblivious to everything around me for over an hour last night. These are some tough challenges! This is perfect for giving your brain a workout while taking a relaxing break from a busy day. With 300 tricky puzzles to figure out, this will keep me busy for a long time to come. Great collection!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Secretly Super By Charles This is a fascinating experience with the twist. Normally Sudoku is something I do every so often when I feel bored. I was going on vacation, and I was looking for more puzzles to do on the beach. I saw this book, and the twist really intrigued me. The idea is to solve each puzzle, and when you solve each one, a letter appears in the center. Each letter contributes towards unlocking a full word by coordinating the puzzle with a black space in a series of blank spaces. It is like what you would see at the bottom of a hangman game. A line of fill in the blank slots coordinated to the puzzle to note which letter to put where. This was really fun! I kept my attention that whole vacation to the point that the people I was with had to bug me to put it down at meals! This kept me engaged because I wanted to find out what the word was. So, I kept pushing through to solve the 300 puzzles. It was really like a mystery solving experience, and I really enjoyed the thrill!

Sudoku with a twist! The cover actually attracted me to this book--being a fan of mysteries. But what I really enjoy is the challenge of harder Sudoku puzzles. And, even better, after I solve the Sudoku puzzle, I earn a letter to solve an even bigger word puzzle. I'd recommend this book to those looking for a Sudoku challenge or as a gift to someone who likes puzzles. It's well worth it.
