His ability to tell a story and draw you, the reader, in is amazing. I graduated one year behind him. I know the people he mentioned. This book brought me back to 1968 and it was a very happy trip. Thank you Bill Robertson!!!!!

The Good Old Days By Bookworm - My Description -When wise people talk of "The Good Old Days", they refer to times gone by.(Anytime before 1990 is good with me. Before things went to hell.)William Robertson recounts memories from his childhood in the 1950's and 1960's.William was born in 1950 in a small town in Pennsylvania.Everyone knew each other. No one was a stranger. Everyone was a friend.William was your typical boy.He wasn't happy unless he was getting into trouble. That is always fun, especially in "The Good Old Days.""The Good Old Days" were a special time. This being before political correctness became the norm. When hamburgers were 15 cents, and going to the movie theater didn't cost an arm and a leg. When children played marbles instead of shooting their classmates with a gun. When children could actually play with a toy gun. Bang-Bang.When children played hopscotch instead of selling drugs on the street corner.Pure bliss. If only to go back in time....- My Review -I love anything to do with anything before 1990. The nostalgia gets me every time. So, I was excited to start this read.My Mom was lucky enough to be born in 1948. She tells me stories of her childhood. Sweet stories of childhood games and even sweeter stories about my Grandparents and Great Grandparents. She saw The Blob in the movie theater. King Kong scared her something awful.I tease her about things, Like "They had that back then??"We both get a kick out of it.I enjoyed getting a glimpse into William's childhood. I only wish he had put something in a epilogue to what happened to him after high school. Thanks William for a trip down your memory lane. =)

And he's written a memoir that is refreshing in its candor, humor and wonderful lack of political correctness.Growing up in rural Pennsylvania in the '50s and '60s meant playing in the woods, hunting, fishing, fending off bullies with your fists, and enduring embarrassing encounters with puberty. He describes with love and honesty his playful father and hard-working mother, both of whom were shaped by the Great Depression. We relive the days when parental discipline was occasionally physical -- and unforgettable. You respectedd your elders and if you didn't, the respect was knocked into you.Robertson shares with us his love of the 60s rock bands, especially the Doors whose Jim Morrison opened the door to the teenager's lifetime love of writing. If your a baby boomer, this memoir will bring back a flood of memories from a time when the telephone still had party lines, and television was a new addition to the home, a box that let us share the excitement of things like the British Invasion.A time when Mom made your breakfast and told you to go out and play and don't come back until lunch, and after lunch, don't return until supper. It was a time we boomers shared when culture and technology were birthing a massive change but we were lucky enough to experience nature, a strict but loving family and the joyful, painful adventure of discovering ourselves.
