Lensfogger’s BEST –A Super-Hero’s Collection of Humor, Satire and Short Stories As the name implies, Lensfogger’s BEST is a collection of twenty-one works. Some are just frivolous, but most are intended to entertain and impart a message or two. A few are intensely serious based on the author’s experiences. The many voices of the renowned photo/journalist, Dodger Lensfogger, narrate our way through this magnificent journey. Every super-hero has an alter-ego. Dodger Lensfogger is no different, except that he has multiple identities and speaks with many voices. Dodger’s characters routinely surface in response to situations or people, who interest him, whether he finds them stimulating, challenging or even offensive. He writes about himself or others in the first person or third person, whatever feels best for the story. He also allows no limits to his inspiration or writing style. Each work, whether whimsical, a touch off-color or intensely serious must be appreciated on its individual merits and intent. I accurately refer to my friend, Dodger Lensfogger, as a super-hero because he wields his mighty camera and potent words to expose the truth wherever it lies buried under layers of wicked distortions and deceits. He celebrates the humanity of those who live in the darkness of poverty and pain of repression. He is a soldier for peace and justice for us all who must live together on our small planet. No worthy cause or desperate call for help ever goes unanswered. Regardless of the danger and personal sacrifice that may be required, Dodger tilts the battle against whatever evils lurk among us. Dodger’s prowess is extraordinary but very real – not like those comic book characters that are created merely to entertain. He does not conquer all through a convenient, but unbelievable mutant physical deviance. Dodger’s perceptive wit, subtle satire and self-depreciating humor lead each of us on a path to human greatness. All we must do is implement his philosophies and honorable standards of behavior into our daily lives. Amazingly, Dodger sees nothing unusual in his incredible talents. “I just follow the voices in my head,” he says. “Doesn’t everybody?” And despite his many successes, he remains a truly humble man who asks for nothing in return for his selfless actions, except for perhaps a wave or friendly smile as he journeys forever onward. Finally, Dodger finds it difficult to let these stories be exposed to the reading public. He generally lives a reclusive life and does not want the notoriety that no doubt will be focused his way. He could only be convinced to publish Lensfogger’s BEST on the assurance that his principles of ethics and decency will be spread to a broad audience around the world. In that way, he hopes his tireless efforts will achieve an even greater good for all mankind.

About the Author Lensfogger’s BEST – A Super-Hero’s Collection of Humor, Satire, & Short Stories BIOGRAPHY Roger Blake a.k.a. Dodger Lensfogger The earliest of these stories, How the World I Saved, was started over 35 years ago in 1988. I remember typing away on my word processor in the converted loft of an old railroad depot. Dust would shake off the rafters covering me and my work every time a train rumbled through. Some stories were conceived in the sleeping compartments of semi-trucks as I crisscrossed the country during the late 1990s through 2005. My life has been a pursuit of creativity wherever I could find it. Another apt description would be “a tattered masterpiece of jobs and careers that should have worked but never did.” Careers have included flying in the Navy, commercial real estate and truck driving – all interspersed with periods when I dropped out to survive doing other things – like being a waiter, jeep tour driver, cabbie, bartender, inn keeper, gallery owner, car salesman, photographer and artist. None of my many, many jobs ever compare to the passion and fulfillment that I receive from art and writing.

Dodger Lensfogger) states `The earliest of these stories, How the World I Saved, was started over 35 years ago in 1988. Another apt description would be "a tattered masterpiece of jobs and careers that should have worked but never did." Careers have included flying in the Navy, commercial real estate and truck driving - all interspersed with periods when I dropped out to survive doing other things - like being a waiter, jeep tour driver, cabbie, bartender, inn keeper, gallery owner, car salesman, photographer and artist. None of my many, many jobs ever compare to the passion and fulfillment that I receive from art and writing.'Roger (or perhaps we should just refer to him as Dodger) writes so well with such a keen wit and sense of parody that he throws the reader off at the start of this book - a book we expect to be just some entertaining but silly meanderings. But get set for some of the most pointed dissections of our current world and what we are doing with it. For example in one story - `Lensfogger Enterprises - our man offers some hints about his views of our legal system but not in a directly condescending way. Well let's just quote his comments to prove a point: `I have hired as our Corporate Attorney, Mr. SeMe SuU previously of the firm Dimwitty, Dumpster and Dipstick. In addition to a substantial pay package, I gave him a penthouse suite at the opposite end of the building from mine with excellent views of the swimming pools of Dazzlewood Hills.' Just a few digs in there. And a few paragraphs later, `I am keenly supportive of the well-being of my employees at Lensfogger Enterprises and have also recently hired a very personable Director of Human Relations, Ms. Ima Goodlight....I had personally interviewed Ms. Goodlight because our Director of Personnel, Mr. Don T. Bother, happened to have called in "sick of the day." Her résumé listed a Master's Degree in Personal Relations and Deep Massage Therapy from GetAHead University here in Dazzlewood.'And on it goes - each story rich in surprises and common sense turned on itself by a very witty writer. Roger Blake has a keen mind and expresses himself exceptionally well. For an inside look at our human foibles, take this book to the loo or where ever you spend significant regular time and tune in to his view of the wild world his Dodger Lensfogger observes it. Top drawer comedy with a sting. Grady Harp, June 15

Dodger’s Fables – A review of the book ‘Lensfogger’s Best’ By MWB Review “To be free means always leaving... or returning to a place where leaves never fall.” - Rich ShaperoRoger Blake’s ‘Lensfogger’s Best’ is a collection of anecdotes, allegories and short stories centered around a fictional character. The author has created a superhero character in Dodger Lensfogger whose super powers go beyond the ones you will find in comic books and films. He is a photojournalist who reports various stories and phenomenon that are meant to surprise and humor us and, more importantly, make us think. We suspect that Dodger Lensfogger and all his characters embody the many facets and fantasies of the author himself. From the title to the front cover of the book, there’s nothing that says ordinary or that it’s just another humdrum fictional novel. It’s designed to catch your attention and provide a refreshing break from your preconceived notions of what a book should be. It manages to amuse you and also makes you think while you are at it. It views life from a different perspective, which is perhaps the author’s main intention.Dodger Lensfogger assumes many identities while appearing in these episodes and often alternates between the first and third person to narrate his stories. Although he is introduced as a superhero, whereby we quickly draw up a caricatured image of a six foot tall hunk in tights in our minds, the very first story shatters any such trepidation and prepares us for the journey ahead.Dodger connects with the reader as a gentle soul always compelled to do the righteous thing. He is sometimes naïve and oblivious to the realities around him – characteristics that lead him on his strange journeys. It seems like he exists in a different space and time from us, and we the audience are merely a spectator as he hops from one remarkable experience to another. There’s also an air of improbability and oddity about him, perhaps the only things he shares with his cousins from the DC and Marvel universe. Yet there’s something very likeable about him because he presents us with these situations and stories that are relevant and discussion-worthy, making it a contemporary and modern book. The episodes themselves don’t seem to follow any structural order and are seemingly random in their appearance. But to enjoy the book you needn’t read this book in a conventional cover to cover style either. At first sight there’s nothing binding these stories together, but look closely and you will feel the aspirations and angst of a liberal and rational mind at work behind them. ‘A Thanksgiving for Contemplation’ and ‘Faces’ are a couple of stand-out stories that deserve a special mention here. One of the main takeaways from a book like ‘Lensfogger’s Best’ has to be the cerebral challenge it throws your way. And like life, there’s a steady mix of happy and sad stories in here to keep you emotionally engaged at all times. This superhero’s main skill is his ability to engage with the audience and that should be reason enough to read more of his adventures.

Reviewed by Eduardo Aduna for Readers' Favorite Lensfogger's BEST By Roger Blake Reviewed by Eduardo Aduna for Readers' FavoriteLensfogger's BEST: A Super-Hero's Collection of Humor, Satire & Short Stories takes a look at the quirks and tropes that compose contemporary America and skillfully subverts, lampoons, and examines them. A good short story lingers. It dwells in your head hours after reading the piece. Great short stories, however, become an integral part of your psyche, so much so that you eventually use them as examples to prove a point in drunken yet serious bar discussions. Lensfogger's BEST: A Super-Hero's Collection of Humor, Satire & Short Stories has given me enough material to enliven my night time jaunts all the way to the first sign of liver failure.Dissecting prose, immaculate set up and construction, and barbed wit that draws just enough blood to be felt but not enough to utterly ruin the subject, Roger Blake has crafted a compilation that never fails to elicit a muffled snort of intellectual amusement. Yes, intelligence is a trait that is a must for both satire and humor, but Blake stands out by having a heightened sensitivity regarding his chosen subjects, be it the foppery that is British royalty or the various societal clashes of race, gender, and status in America. This sensitivity pervades the entire collection, and sometimes gives way to pure empathy, as the case was in Rose, a surprisingly emotional read with a lesson all of us should take to heart. Roger Blake needs to write more of these wonderful stories, and readers need to recognize his penchant and skill in crafting tales that amuse and teach at the same time.
