Join Misan and Kwon as they travel a perilous land full of magic, monsters, swordplay and subterfuge; searching for the the truth in the most unlikely of places... ____________________________________________ "The Legend of Misan Driste is a humorous fantasy-adventure slash romantic-comedy that somehow manages not to take itself too seriously, despite its serious social subject matter." "A witty, charming and ruthlessly blunt satire of western society's perception of gender supremacy. Pro-humanist, anti-feminist literature that will catch you by surprise."

The Legend of Misan Driste: A Triggering Satire of Feminism & Social Justice, by Shawna Falero, Micah Brock

About the Author Shawna Falero is an avid medieval-fantasy nerd who's authored two novels previously and takes much of her inspiration from old-school RPGs and open-world games. When she's not writing stories to make readers laugh, cry or tremble with terror, she's either practicing archery in the forests of Irondale (seriously, it's a real place), cooking over a campfire somewhere or planning her survival for the zombie apocalypse. Ms. Falero is also a practitioner of Mixed Martial Arts and an aspiring fitness model, so if she's not in the gym or at the end of a camera lens, you can probably find her curled up with a good horror novel - and no pants.

Since "being a woman means my opinions are pretty much fact", you can bank on being amused at the grinding of "womynist" teeth.Watch as an ignorant young woman (whose idea of "altruism at it's finest" is permitting herself to be covertly admired by males) starts to question the institutions around her, and the dubious benefits thereof. Tongue in cheek gaming references abound, as what adventure is complete without the ubiquitous 20 feet of rope? The occasional phrase at odds with itself - "booming shriek" - seems to indicate this author is relatively new to the craft (I have not seen other works by her), but I am looking forward to reading more. Any set of protagonists that drink ginger and honey tea whilst adventuring make much forgiveable. - A. Groenig

By R3 The Legend of Misan Driste (Don’t worry, NO spoiler alert). My initial impression of book The Legend of Misan Driste was kind of like a good video game. (come to find out that this story was adapted from an rpg! …not sure where to find it, but if anyone can share the info please do!!) There was very little to go on as far as reviews or posts online, which ultimately was kinda cool because I basically went in to this story “cold”. I got to feel like a bit of a pioneer/pilgrim wandering into a new wild world full of witty satire. I think that this story is kind of one of those cautionary tales like the film “Idiocracy”- like that film, It’s really funny but as you read and start to appreciate the social-mirror that is being held up to our own world today. As much as this is based in a fantasy context, I can tell you (without spoiling anything) that this story deals with lots of a social sleeping giants. Double-standards, chauvinism, and bigotry all resting neatly upon the shoulders of an action-adventure framework. This book is about a privileged girl named Misan, who works as one of the many girls in a female-ruled Kingdom called "Womynia”. In Womynia everyone has been indoctrinated to value themselves firstly by the shape of their peepee-spots and not by their merit. All of the women are in total control and practically worshiped. The place feels like what would happen if a super-sorority took over the world, imposing anti-male laws and celebrating frivolity, cattiness, nepotism, shallowness and chauvinism. Everything in Misan’s world has raised her to take her female empowerment/dominance for granted but she is still likeable because she comes by it honestly and innocently. ..Even though she is a total “B”. She eventually leave’s her bubble-world on official kingdom-business and runs into a self-respecting male who becomes entangled into the your girl’s life. Through a score of humorous episodes of life lessons via their quest Misan starts having her long held opinions challenged. Along their adventures they meet some characters that surprised me. A couple of note worthy folk are the self-hating gimp-like character who panders to the high ranking female military leader/dominatrix-ish character. The story is not bogged down with excessive detailing or swampy lingo. It moves along and saves its breath for action within the odd and backwards world it creates. The story is a nice mix of comedy, action, even some romance/drama. I laughed many times out loud. I even got chocked up at times (never kick a dog, never swat a golem) Lastly I will say that if you would like an easy read and a story with a very unique voice with some politics and humor, drama, action look no further.

From the cover, it looked like it might be a promising actionadventure story. And in a sense, it was...But it was also loaded with things I didn't expect. This book is actually one of the funniest I've ever read! Not just that, but it has a really great lovestory that builds perfectly throughout the book. Itkind of reminds me of an jrpg in book form, but witha bunch of social humar and satire mixed in.There are some pretty cool battles, interested characters (like Captain Mang and General Fym), and it's really well-paced. The pacing really picks upthough during the 2nd half.Anyway, I read this on loan through kindle, and I amdefinitely going to buy a physical copy the first chance I get. This author is fairly new (in my opinion), but she has a bright future ahead of her. All in all a great read that I would recommend to others.
