The usual suspect causing a resident’s placement in a nursing facility, based on my first-hand experience, is Alzheimer’s Disease. Many families can deal with the needs of an aging loved one, but the stress associated with caring for a loved one that slowly fades… That is typically too taxing to manage and professional help must be sought. Seeking such help is daunting. You don’t want to make a mistake to the detriment of your loved one.Laura Town and Karen Kassel have produced a series of books to help guide a person through the emotional process of finding help. One of the nice features of the series, continued in the book I am reviewing Dementia, Alzheimer's Disease Stages, Treatment Options, and Other Medical Considerations (Alzheimer’s Roadmap Book 2), are checklists detailing various “need to know” items.Checklists included in this book: Symptoms/Warning Signs, Possible methods to slow the disease, questions to ask when choosing a doctor (including before diagnosis and after), the different forms of dementia and stages of dementia/Alzheimer’s. There are other checklists included, all invaluable pieces of knowledge that will better help to understand the illness.A bit of science behind the disease in an effort to help the reader understand what is happening to the victim. While the medical terms might be daunting at first, they are explained in detail for the lay person to grasp. These terms may become important parts of your dialogue with a health care professional. The checklists provided regard various medications, including over-the-counter, used to slow Alzheimer’s.This book contains extremely useful information packed away in just 64 short pages. If you are tech savvy, this is a useful piece of literature to have on your Kindle or Kindle device when you visit the doctor’s office. I would recommend browsing the entire series of books by Laura Town and Karen Kassel to see which might be useful to better caring for your loved one. Printing the information and highlighting the parts that are most relevant for your current situation would be incredibly beneficial. If you have Kindle Unlimited the books are free to read, but even without they are affordably priced. Gaining the peace of mind that accompanies owning this series is priceless.Alzheimer’s disease is frightening to witness; a person needs all the help they can find. Excellent Alzheimer's series By TFLReader I have a grandparent with early Alzheimer's and we want to have her at home for as long as possible, doing what is best for her at every turn. I have found these Alzheimer's Roadmap books to be incredibly helpful in preparing us for the road ahead. This book has some great information about the different stages of the disease and the treatment options available at each stage. There are lists of early warning signs of Alzheimer's, information on how to find a good doctor, and even information about finding new treatments and clinical trials. Another great addition to this series that is giving us comfort and hope.

A great overview of the subject along with a lot of practical information. Some of the practical stuff would apply to medical issues other than Alzheimer's. I highly recommend it.
