About the Author Bob Harris, known affectionately as "Whispering Bob" due to his softly spoken voice, has worked in broadcasting since the 1970s, when he was the face of the live music show Old Grey Whistle Test. He cofounded Time Out magazine and has written books, newspaper articles, and magazine columns, produced records, and worked with some of the biggest names in music. Along with Lyle Lovett, Nanci Griffith, and Old Crow Medicine Show, he is one of only four recipients to be honored with the Americana Music Association's Americana Trailblazer Award. He is a frequent visitor to Nashville, and well-known there.

I beg your pudding By Jimi Jac So here’s the thing, I think like most people who are going to read a book about the life of Bob Harris, you really want it to focus on the time that he spent presenting the Old Grey Whistle Test (being more of a fan that songwriter or musician gave Harris a unique perspective on the acts he encounters), but unfortunately, that’s only half the book.The rest of the book is interesting & well written, telling how Harris struggled to find work, affairs, he fall out with fellow BBC DJ Bruno Brookes(!), fighting cancer & becomes the go-to guy for all things Country & Western.It’s just a shame that Bob Harris couldn’t have written a kind of dairy-based biography about all the shows, & interviews that he made with Whistle test.
