In approximately 5000 words, the author presents a power pack of information on the subject, and a course of action that covers the tools for treatment and a clear, convincing discussion of how to use them.What Goodley says has the ring of truth. He tells us that “An important step toward recovery is to recognize your compulsions as compulsions.” In addition, we are NOT our compulsive thoughts and should not confuse ourselves with them. He reminds us more than once that “recovery is a lifestyle,” not a “cure” or “finish-line” and that “anxiety disorders are a lot like a kidnapper” in that they keep us “confined.” Also important are the concrete remedies he recommends, which seem to touch upon all the bases.If someone wants relief from anxiety, this book is an outstanding place to begin.

The guide for anyone with OCD By Jasmine Being in college I diffidently deal with anxiety and I over time developed OCD this book help me to understand the habits that I had picked up were more hurtful than helpful. This book has been a stepping stone to me talking to my doctor for more help dealing with my OCD

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Down to Earth By Shannon Pease I am not a big fan of self-help books, so the fact that I really enjoyed this is rare. I do not suffer from OCD in a clinical sense, but I have suffered from anxiety for as long as I can remember. Social anxiety is the what I would consider my worse anxiety issues. I am lucky in the fact that I can identify stressors and I know why I have those stressors. There are a lot of people who cannot pinpoint an event that triggers their anxiety. Although I can pinpoint doesn't mean I have an easy time overcoming or preventing my attacks. This author takes a very matter-of-fact approach on OCD and anxiety. He's not advertising a product or gimmick. What he offers is down to earth advice that makes sense and could be pretty simple to maintain. The book is easy to read and can be read in one setting. I definitely recommend it, especially if you are looking for some honest advice.
