I love these people By carryanne The RAVE reviews are already rolling in for "Welome to Frost Heaves" ..(...Well, here' s MiNE, anyway!)........Pack your bags and come along on this joyous excursion back in time, to down-home comfort and a place where everybody knows your name ( and probably most of your business !!) There's no Home Depot or Stop and Stop HERE, thankyou just the same, .. INSTEAD you'll find Dingle's Hardware Store run by Charlie Dingle, and The Frost Heaves Market : owned and operated by Bernie "Moochie Mueller"....(.Gosh, I love these people!! ) How about having your hair done down to Rick and Rhonda's Bait and Beauty Shop?? And seriously, I might be inclined to " get back to the fold" if we had a place of worship here in MY town like 'The Frost Heaves Community Church", known for their monthly community suppers and the "HOLY CHOW" newsletter !!.....Who knew Sundays could be such a hoot ??.. .........Well, that's pretty much all you can weazel out of ME for now ; (I'm only on page 12 and I'm hooked already !) .....I"m headin' back to my recliner now for a heapin' second helpin' of FRED'S FROST HEAVINGS' !! 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I've Met Some of These People By Robert Suphan Fred has painted an amusing picture of small-town New England. His writing is in the same style as his videos about Frost Heaves and I found myself laughing frequently at his descriptions of people and places. If you grew up in, or summered in, a small New England town you will recognized the folks that populate Frost Heaves. If you have never been to New England, the book will introduce you to real Yankees, described with both wit and warmth. Now I wish we had paid more attention to the Frost Heaves signs when driving through New England and had stopped to pay the town a visit.

Dell'Orto What Edith Wharton is to the Gilded Age, what Ken Kesey is to stoned-out Flower Children, what Garrison Keillor is to NPR, what H.L. Mencken is to Baltimore, what . . . wait a minute, where was I going with this? Oh yes -- Ken Sheldon, in his persona of Fred Marple, is helping to keep alive the characters and voices of a rural New Hampshire fast disappearing under the crush of the modern media environment that is rapidly erasing our distinctive patterns of speech, and threatening our old ways of doing things as more and more folks "from away" move in and want to make us just like where they came from, only without a state income tax. This is a funny, witty, wise and warm book that helps to keep those characters and voices that are so much a part and parcel of what makes New Hampshire the special place that it is come alive for the reader.
