1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Community and division By Liviania Ann Pearlman's memoir goes back to 1962 when she (a Jewish woman) was engaged to Ty (a black man). It tells of them meeting each others' families, with episodes both funny and harrowing. The way she writes about emotions is incredibly vivid, from love to humiliation. It certainly convinced me that I want to read INFIDELITY, her Pulitzer-prize winning memoir about their marriage.I particularly love the descriptions of food in "His Eye Is on the Sparrow." Who doesn't associate food with community, hospitality, history? It comes through so deliciously here, even when the food is divisive. I'm not a big memoir fan, but this is simply a fascinating story.

Exquisitely written By Judith Peterson This is a book about an inter-racial couple who travel in his car to visit his family and then travel to meet her family in a different state in 1960. The love they share is beyond words. The humiliation they suffered through is beyond words.This is gut retching. It's filled with love and passion, caring and hatred.Beautiful story. Thank you for writing it.Go pick up a copy. It's a short story. You'll enjoy it. No, you'll LOVE it!

Sherby This highly engrossing story, relates the experiences of an interracial couple as they drive cross-country to meet the family of the African-American man. The warm acceptance of the black family is drawn in vivid distinction to the response of the liberal white family. The characters are real and engaging; the story, fast-paced, educational, and exceedingly well written.Definitely a winner!Linda B. Sherby
