The political and public image of law enforcement and our military is a daily roller coaster of emotions. I support freedom of speech and the right to assemble, but when innocent people lose their businesses, homes, or even their lives during these events, it is not only illegal, but it is unjust. Tired of all the negative media given to these professions, I decided to take action and collect stories from men and women, currently serving or retired, in law enforcement, the military, and corrections. An overwhelming amount of entries were sent to me from around the country. Included in this anthology are the best of the best. You'll find humor, anger, excitement, nervousness, bitterness, and a hundred other human emotions within these stories. My intent, as it was with all the authors, was to try to give readers a glimpse behind the scenes. About the Author Best-selling crime fiction (Detective Bill Dix Series) and true crime (Robert Pickton: The Pig Farmer Killer) author C. L. Swinney has been a cop for almost fourteen years. Working in narcotics, homicide, and patrol has afforded him great insight into the profession. Recent highly publicized events around the country caused numerous emotions to swirl within Mr. Swinney, forcing him to act. Earlier this year, he struck out to gather a collection of short stories, non-fiction and fiction, from men and women currently (or retired) working in law enforcement, corrections, and the military to share with the general public. His goal was to educate, enlighten, and provide a behind-the-scenes look at these proud professions. No profession is perfect, and mistakes certainly have been made, but the majority of those serving this country or the public strive to do right and risk their lives daily to keep this country and complete strangers safe. C. L. Swinney donates the overwhelming majority of the proceeds from his novels to the families of fallen officers and military members. The remaining proceeds go toward his insatiable coffee urges.

My brother was in the Navy during the Vietnam War and I know how badly he was treated when he came home.There is a lot of terrible things going on in this world today and I can't imagine a more terrifying job than that of a police officer or a corrections officer. The only job that may possibly be worse is that of a spouse of a law enforcement individual.I'm very proud of the individuals who shared their stories in this book. I appreciate them sharing their lives with me and all who read this book so that we may understand a little more about what they go through. I am proud of all of them and all the officers who go out their front doors every morning to make the world a safer place.Thank you all of your dedication to your chosen profession.

We've learned to compartmentalize the horrors and darkest acts of mankind as police officers...in an effort to not show weakness among our peers. The stories in this book by the men and women in blue let us know we're not the only ones who struggle with our chosen careers. This is a quick read with a simple, but strong message....love yourself, family and friends...in the end that's all we have.Thanks to the contributors and CL swinney for this collection of stories.

By Ian This is honestly one of the best books I have read in a long time. there are many who contributed to this book and it is a very insightful and informing read. Thank you to all who shared their stories in this book. If not for these brave men and women who serve our country everyday, this country would be in a much worse state than it currently is. It is nice to see things from and LE and military point of view. Great Job as always C. L Swinney
