5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Gripping and Compelling! Wow! By Zazzy I excitedly waited for “Once we were Friends” to be released. I have enjoyed many other books by Mr. Mooney and his latest creation was no exception. Once you get started on this novel, be prepared to stick around for a while. It is difficult to put down.It is an attention grabbing tale filled with an endearing colorful quilt of characters. I found myself wanting to know more about them even after the book was over. I appreciated that it left me asking questions and wondering how the author was able to paint such a striking story of one boy’s hot and sweaty summer of 1959. I was begging for a cold drink after one of the chapters! Rich and complex but completely engaging, Bryan Mooney’s intertwined storylines draws in the reader while prompting them forward as they hope to learn how they will converge and resolve in the end. It is a long road but it is traveled quickly.I was moved by the reference in one of the chapters that dealt with those who serve our country. It was a poignant reminder that no generation is untouched by their sacrifice.This book is masterfully written and is a very worthwhile read. Don’t miss this or any of Bryan Mooney’s other works. You will not be disappointed!!

This novel is a sleeper, well written and certainly worth the price By John P I suppose that " Once we were friends" is listed under coming of age genre, but I found this book to be intriguing and found myself looking forward to figure out how the characters interacted and why.I was not surprised that the author did a masterful job of accomplishing this task and marveled at the complexity of it all.This book is not a coming of age book but reads like a drama novel, a story within a story that the reader will find that he/she cannot put this book down or certainly cannot wait to turn the next page.The author hold your interest in a not so fast pace but, I bet you cannot wait for what is next..I wholeheartedly recommend reading this novel and feel that this book should be on the top ten list.Another fine book written by Mr. Mooney

I have enjoyed all of Mr. Mooney’s books and this one most of all. Just the title “Once We Were Friends” is intriguing and makes you want to get reading! I highly recommend it.
