Amazon.com Review Overall, this is one of the strongest young adult excerpts that I've read so far. While Elva does show some of the traits of a typical YA teen: i.e. insecurity, her personality is already revealed to be unique enough to indicate to the reader that she will be a memorable protagonist.

I'm glad I took a chance on it. =) By Smiley I was supposed to be doing homework and chores and other stuff that sucks, but decided to read this book instead. You never know what you're going to get when you buy a random book off amazon but this one is truly unique. This is one of those books that you read in one sitting and laugh your a** off the entire time. I'm glad I took a chance on it. =)
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Smalltown Trekkie with big dreams By S. Taitel I was completely charmed by this oddball of an excerpt. At first the quirky tone threw me a little. I'm not from the south and grew up in a very big city, so the setting felt a little alien to me, and possibly contrived. But I got sucked in and found Elva incredibly relateble. (I was an overweight scfi geek/social outcast as a teen. I only wish I had as much gumption as Elva when I was in high school) Making her a Trekkie feels original. I don't think I've read a novel with a Trekkie MC, and you rarely see geek characters in rural settings. (In fiction, we geeks are everywhere in reality). I don't really have clue where the plot is heading, but I don't care too much, I just want to spend more time with Elva.My one issue was that the hell metaphor gets hit a few too many times in the opening paragraphs. Since I was coming in with no context, I wasn't positive it was a metaphor, or if the high school was meant to literally be hell. After all in fiction anything is possible.

A Real Girl By Vijaya Bodach I rarely give 5 stars because there is always something wanting, but Plumb Crazy left me completely satisfied, like a cat who snuck into the cream. Elva Presley doesn't feel like a character in a book, but like a real girl whom I could sit and watch the Wrath of Khan with as we devour junk food and then later take apart the plot. She works hard, dreams big, and has the ability to laugh at herself. I laughed my way through this book and can't wait for more novels from this author.
